Ok, I'm getting my computer in 4-8 days, and I was just wondering with all the new technology coming out, how long will my computer be able to last me?

Intel C2D E6300 1.86GHz Processor
2GBs RAM
Nividia GeForce 7900GT 256MB
250GB HD

I know there's new cards and processors coming out, but this rig should last about 4 years or so I'm thinking, and still being able to play the latest games on high settings with no lag.

Its fucked when Crysis and other games come out...

But so is pretty much everyone elses PC..

I'm thinking of building a computer similair to that..

But most likely with a E6400 Processor or better and a 512MB GeForce 7950..

EDIT: Will probably last you a Year or so..

And how much did it cost?

K maybe not high settings with no lag for games that are coming out like 3 years from now.

But my new system is close to high end right?

I know, i could have gotten a 8800 and like 4 gbs of ram, but i dont have that much money.

I got ripped off... $1600. If i wanted a 7950 it would add to the cost and make it probably $1800, which we aren't spending.

That;s the best i could get for the price. I will be able to play games at high settings though right?

You should have just saved up more money to get a better rig.  When DX10 cards are in full effect your gonna want to upgrade.

What's your psu?

I'm not sure what they put in, probably 500W

I'm gunna save up for a 8800GTX anyways.

So what would you rate my system now (out of 10, not comparing it to your system if its an amazing system) and then rate it if it had an 8800GTX in it.

You'll probably need like a 1000W psu to support the 8800GTX... Its a power hog.

the Dx10 card would bring the rating up a lot.  What kind of ram did you get?

Everyone is overexaggerating Ryan.  You have a nice freaking computer, and you bought at a good time.

This rig will last you a quite a while.  It isnt DX10, but most games will support DX9 for at least another year or two.

The card you bought is only a few months old.  It is a really nice computer that should allow you to run games at their highest settings for a while, and you should be a run games well for well over a year.

Dont be bummed man, a few months ago this computer would have been top of the line.  You bought at a good time; right after new stuff came out that pushed down the prices of the not-so-new 4 month old stuff.

Your rig is about as good as it gets for bang-for-your-buck... as they say.

Nice rig, and if it's an EVGA card, you can do the trade-in thing when you want to upgrade.  Having an 8800 at this very second is kinda overkill it seems.  Is it a prebuilt?  Because I would have thought you could get that rig less than 1600 if you built it.

It's as good a computer as is reasonable to buy now, but you should never expect anything to run a game coming out four years later at high settings.

dude don't worry, your fine.  i don't get people when they say "oh, uh, not long at all dude!!".  for fuck sakes their are still people playing bf2 with 9500 series ati cards!!!   sure not at the best settings, but still playing.   Besides the people that say that are the people who buy every single game that comes out and can afford to upgrade their computer 2 or more times a year.  that is not me and i plan on playing bf2 for awhile and maybe even 2142.  and my amd dual core, 2gb ram, and 7900gt will due just fine thank you very much.

You have a nice rig, and don't be swayed by others.  Don't be a knob that spends top dollar on the first thing that comes out only to find it $100 cheaper a month later.   the people i know that can do this are  A. single, B. get funding from mommy and daddy or C. just plain too fucking geeky

good hunting

so say we all
