wow , big risk playing with a psu. I've seen one of those blow up right infront of me lol
Does it let you go into safe mode? (F8 during startup)

ok it lets me go into Linux but not XP and yes safemode can be entered, but it just shows 100+ lines of some files and then restarts after 1 min.
Sounds like the problem I just had with my pc. As soon as Windows starts to load, it BSOD on me. I wasn't able to fix it. Here's something to try though. Put in an XP disk and select R for repair. (Mine was PW protected so I couldn't get in there) Once in repair mode, type in fixmbr and hit eneter. Then type fixboot and press enter.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like you're screwed unless you can get your hands on a Windows disk and do like Downy said.[n00b]Tyler wrote:

THAT'S NOT GLUE it's thermal gel to transfer the heat from your CPU to the heatsink.
You probably disturbed it and now your processor is overheating before Windows even loads.
Buy some more thermal gel (good quality) and put a layer of it on your CPU, under the heatsink.

That's right, albeit I explained that at the top of the thread .JT_001 wrote:

Yep just caught that now... sorry.
Thermal gel is important... without it your CPU overheats in SECONDS (and crashes).

this is your problem

Make sure you didn't loosen that CPU heatsink and fan. If it is loose, then your CPU is overheating... prolly right about the time that your PC boots to XP.... causing a blue screen and reboot.... check that... then if you can get into safe mode... go to system properties : advanced : Startup and Recovery (Settings) : and uncheck automatically restart..... this will let you read the blue screen.... and from there you can look it up and troubleshoot...

this is what is says, now it makes no sence to me.

In the first picture, the cpu cooler looks a bit weird to me, it looks like its up side down?.
i mean the copper part in the middle must be in contact with the cpu.
i hope this was just a test picture and not when you fired it up, and that I'm making a complete fool out of myself by saying this, because you already knew that .
If not, then Jeez, your cpu is fried .

there is like a flat square on the other side of it, that has that cream or whatever, that side has the fan blowing on it.cosworth1983 wrote:

the unbootable_disk_volume would lead me to beleive it is a HDD issue. what i would do: unplug your optical drives, sound card, and hard drive(s) from the power supply and the motherboard. boot 'er up. if the motherboard posts, your set. its hard-drive failure. go down to wal-mart and pick up a internal drive (well, maybe not wal-mart). if it still gives you this error, or another one, it is either PSU or motherboard.
1. Never open up your PSU unless you're some maniac trying to mod it. In all cases I can think of, it voids warranty, and is also risky.
2. Formatting is the automatic noob answer. There's plenty of ways to fix things without resorting to that extreme measure.
3. All computers, even custom-built ones from shops, should come with a copy of their OS. Unless, of course, you're just given a hand-me-down.

correct except the os cd....many will, but many also have their own "restore" software, that will reinstall windows, but not do a format. found this out doing a friends computer (fukin HP).unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Just reading up about not having an XP cd - were u given like a set of 2 recovery cds with your system? You didnt say.....
Is your system new or 2nd hand? if its new then a CD key will be found somewhere on your box and you can use that (along with your recovery cds)
