My price range is $2000-$2500 USD.

I am looking to buy a new PC, but no monitor, keyboard, or mouse, those I will get separate at a later date.
Also some q's: Why is Dual core good? Should I get a 7900GT, 7950GT, or an 8800GT? and why?

Dual core is good for multitasking. Not as good for single thread games, but newer games are starting to optimize for dual core CPUs. For running single thread games (like BF2) a fast single core will out perform a dual core, which tend to have slower clock speeds.

At the moment the Core2 conroes are probably the best bang for the buck, but im an AMD man at heart. The 8800 is definatly a must for any new system, just make sure you have a large enough power supply. Don't go cheap here, a good power supply will keep you system stable. Get 2 Gb of ram or more.

Perrsonally, i would avid the Micro ATX mobos. I like having the expandibility of the Full ATX.

Conroe is the name givin to the Intel Core 2.

what is a conroe?

Conroe was the code name for the Core two duo's or C2d's
Oh and having two separate "Dual cores" allows your chip two execute two different sets of instructions at the same time. Say you want to burn a dvd while playing a game, ..you get the picture..(very simple definition I realize )

I'd look at Des.Kmals, add another hard disk and RAID 0 it. Maybe look at a faster version of the processor, consider going 4GB RAM, and chucking in another 8800 in SLI or getting the GTX varient.

That then should kick arse.

Isn't that a bit of a over-kill?

He would be better off two wait on the other 2 gigs of ram and perhaps put a couple raptors in raid 0 in there. (Hard drives always suck adding after the fact). 4 gig's by no means will be overkill for anyone planning to run Vista I should note also. I think substituting the HD's and minus the 2 gigs of ram he we still be in line with his budget.

yeah, all the parts you could need is in that thread. this is a e6600., take out the other one and you can have a bad ass comp.
