If you don't adjust distance, there is no default value AFAIK.
They just det on impact. As long as its 20+ meters away.
So i have never adjusted the distance, but have killed at long range and short range.

Those AR rockets are especially useful on Belgrade, Tunis, Gilbralter, Cerbere & Berlin 32plyr (ie:2142 urban maps)

Seems like no one only zeidmaan has pointed out this very important detail. When you first right click, the gun detects the distance of what you are aiming at and sets this to the explode distance. If you are aiming at nothing, the default is 20.

So say a troop is hiding behind a wall. Aim at the wall and right click to read the distance. Then move the gun to where the troop is (where the wall ends) and scroll up with the mousewheel to add 2 meters to the distance so the rocket will explode past the wall. 1-2 rockets will usually kill them.

If you just shoot without zooming in, rockets just explode on impact.

in city maps I get more  kills with rockets than with bullets.

Anyway in case you are still confused hewes how it goues. If a guy is proned behind a shield than you should aim directly at the shield and THAN zoom in. Rockets will be automaticly adjusted for that distance. Now flip your mouse wheel once and aim above the shield. Rockets should ekplode over his head. If the distance was just over 20 meters than you should just take one step forward and fire.

One flip of the mouse wheel increases the didtance by 2 meters for me. I think is relative to the windows setting for mouse wheel.

ps. im typing in the dark.
I did and holly crap my sppeling was bad.

But lately I have been trying to gues the distance without using the range finder. If I spot an enemy thats behind something or on the roof etc, I will hide behind something, zoom in on the ground and set the distance (gues it).
Than I will just stand up fire, crouch, all in maybe a second eliminating any chance of getting hit. Compared to stand up - aim - zoom in - flip the mouse wheel - fire - duck.
I just do it for fun
