goin for their toes often works.

Use the Recon kit's camo and sneak up behind people. Draw your knife in the last second and stab them while they're sniping your buddies.
Or go Rambo, like some guy on me yesterday, during my hangover. I was setting up a shield when a guy popped up ten meters in front of me. I thought, "Big deal" and lied down behind the shield to switch to my LMG, and he started to dash towards me with his knife. So I stand up, aim, spray, the guy is suddenly on top of me and stabs me. Then right after there's the obligatory "You got a kill damage assist" as the guy, with between 1-6 health left is hit by a stray bullet.
Sigh. Sucks to play with hangovers.

I don't have 2142, but I'm sure its just like BF2. Just dive at them (like most people do before they brgin firing their Support weapon). You dont have to hit them in the chest area. They still die if you hit 'em in the toes/feet/legs as "Whiskey Oktober" said. That way they cant hit you with their gun. They usually fire at random in the hope of killing you first.[TUF]Whiskey_Oktober wrote:

After that, teabag 'em, so they know you got 'em.
Ok, first understand that the knife is a gun, but with a very short range.
Walking towards the slash or whatever is bullshit, but if it helps you to get it done, go for it!
If you engage in a knife fight, remember the best way to avoid being killed is to "sidestep the bullet" coming from the knife.
Knife fights are a stupid way to get kills, its best to get people who do not expect it, during chaos or being stealth. On board the titan is a good way to get kills, if your defending, camp the vents, shoot anyone falling down them, and slash anyone running on the ground floor.

Except, as the titan is soooooooooo screwed up, at times it has a range of a friggen sniper rifle! Lol, funniest kill I have ever had, guy was a clear 10m+ from me, I knew I was going down, had knife in hand, slashed the cyber air, and got his tags lmao!Sarrk wrote:

if u lie down u cant slash immidiatly but ramboing on belgrade is the best map, verry crowded so allot of potential targets. And if it is possible snipers are the best targets. Sadly I often mistake myself and run in a supportguyBattlefieldMedic wrote:

I love people who think snipers are the easiest knife kills... probabaly why I have so many APM kills Specially as most people don't know how to get round them.
Recon is the only class that can kill you without looking at you (barring support but those sentry things are rubbish).
'Barry Assault Moron' rampaging forward blindly is your easiest kill, once they enter 'blinkered moron mode' just follow them around til they stop at a corner or summin thinkin they're James Bond and tear em a second ass hole. Winnar.

press 1, left click when facing enemy.
Titan mode FTW when knifing. :3

Bumrush and Bunnyhop. wait till they waste their ammo, the knife has like a 3 foot reach for some awesome reason.

Probabaly summin to do with the average arm being about 3 foot long... go figure.
Well, it helps if you're crazy like me. Then just realize if they don't expect the enemy behind them they won't look there. Even if they buddy next to them got knifed. Its great.
Best way to avoid knifers is to have a good sound card and nice speakers or headphones, you can hear the guy decloaking or pulling out his knife (both have a very distinctive sound)

If you aren't confident with your knife skills, don't knife fight. Other than that, sneak up behind some poor sucker and just stab them! If soemone knife fights you, shoot them in the face. Until you get better.kptk92 wrote:

i have 388 II-29 Motion Mine kills, and don't think i've seen one of 'em.
the only reason my k/d with a knife is positive, ppl playing recon.
all of my APM kills: recon died w/o laying claymore, left them for me!
the biggest advantage recon has: the advanced sniper rifle can take out roller mines, apms. i'm just glad newbs rush to unlock it, think wow! i'm l33t snipa, and dont really realize the gun they have is overpowering.
Is there a certain distance that you have to be to get a successful kill? I have been knife by guys slicing air and yet when I am right up on them I miss. Explanation please.Samtheman53 wrote:

Unlike BF2, I think diving at someone with the knife in 2142 is a death sentence. Every time I see someone go prone with the knife I stab them in the head.
I never crouch to hit a prone person either because you are always too close and it hits the ground below them. The exception was when some guy was knife fighting with me in an empty server and we were both fighting prone, lol.

The hit detection is screwed. If you think you are just out of range, swing anyway because you might be just within striking range. Too close and it goes right through them. It's always been like that and probably always will be with the BF2 engine. The worst is when it makes the hit sound and doesn't kill them. I had it happen 3 or 4 times on one guy before, and the bastard finally turned around and shot me.1MaNArmY wrote:

OK things to know about the knife.
Hit detection is weird, sometimes you'll hear the knife hit, but no damage. Its a LOT better than BF2 but it is still there.
Second, Never back off from someone in a knife-fight, always STRAFE.
Remember this, the knife is a bullet, not a knife, it does not make a slashing motion, it shoots forward at the center of the screen and only travels 1 meter, so if the target is not in the dead center of your screen, you'll miss.( which is why strafing works)
Bunnyhop and Rush.
Camo is not what its cracked up to be, the delay between turning off the camo and pulling out the knife will get you killed. Plus camo really sucks
Don't prone, it makes your fire delay. Crouch.

I like many others already have my gold knife badge, and some 180 unique dog tags, i am not saying this cos i think i am awesome, but merely that i have managed to get what the game asks of someone to be good at knifing. Here are my pointers.
Assault is the best kit for knifing, cos you will take a lot of bullets and being able to heal yourself really helps.
1. When you knife the knife is in your hand, hence when you swing the knife it and your hand are an arms length from the body, it is this distance away from your victim which is the optimal range (about 1m)
2. Pull your knife out early! You will notice that when you take out your knife it makes a sheathing noise, this is quite easily heard by your victim if you do it too close to them, many a time i have heard this sound and turned to fill some defenseless dude full of bullets.
3. In titan mode choppers are a great source of easy knife kills, when the enemy lands a chopper on the titan if you camp near the doors of the chopper of the left hand side, as people spawn in the chopper you heard it power up, a few seconds later they appear and pause near this left hand door, an easy kill or small chase to get them.
4. Knife when you normally wouldn't, eg when you are driving along and see someone in the middle of no where, rather than road kill them, jump out and knife them.
5. You cant get knife kills without risking it. Once you perfect the first of my points, i believe in a confined space you almost have 60/40 chance of beating anyone, so get used to pulling that knife out.
