All,

I have just bought a 42" LCD DLP tv. I was wondering if anyone has used/knows about MythTV I have basic cable now; in order to watch TV on the new one I need Digital Cable. I know how to setup a MythTV box and what hardware I need. The only thing that isn't very clear (maybe for a reason) is the fact about the actual subscription. I know cable is unencrypted, does this mean I can plug my coax directly into the TV card and get a full digital cable package? Besides the channels that are encrypted such as; PPV, HBO etc. If I pay for a basic package just as I have now, could I actually have all of the channels that basic TiVo will allow?

Any information would be GREAT!

Which one is it LCD or DLP they are different.

And what is your question again. They only way to get HD is by getting an HD antena to pick up local channels brodcast in HD, or to get and HD Cable Box/Sat. Box.

What I meant by the LCD was the flat panel screen. It's DLP, I want to make a MythTV box. Will I have to pay for the digital service, or just the basic package to get the digital signals.

Things like that should be outlined in the subscription terms and conditions, I dont know much about how US tv works but if its ANYTHING like UK, then to get digital signals you will have to pay for it.  If you didnt there would be no point in people forking out for the digital service in the first place.....  So yea I would say you need to pay for them.

I CAN HELP YOU

I just got a 42 SharpLCD 2 weeks ago.

I dont know i have my local cable (COX). They installed a motorola HDTV box, it came with DVR and all that good stuff. Theres only like 15 HD channels though. But its great for the games.

but on the downside-

It messed up another tv that was non HD.
Some regular channels look fuzzy from not being HD

but mostly its really cool and fun to play games on.

(:

For example FAr Cry i rented kinda hurts my eyes because its not a 360 Game

I noticed that with HALO, my eyes were hurting when I was pwning! Thanks for the info, I have already checked the MythTV wiki, just as I said above I think they don't mention that for a reason. As far as I know, the digital signals are NOT encrypted so if you have something that can decode the signal you basically get the channels. Remember the old cable boxes that used to be illegal (blackbox)?
