OK my computer sucks, and I need a new one. I have to have all settings on lowest and it lags when there's arty, nade spamming or when you nearly get killed and it goes to "stoner vision".

So can anyone suggest a good computer I can buy (i don't need a monitor) for about £1000, maybe +/- £200.
It is needed purely for gaming so don't worry about printers or Microsoft office etc.

I was thinking of Alienware so anyone with reviews on them would be helpful.

I will be thankful for any suggestions.

I was thinking of getting this one:
http://www.alienware.co.uk/Configurator … KU-DEFAULT
With the 5000+ processor upgrade, 2GB memory upgrade and dual video card upgrade.
Just under £1200
Anyone think its good?

Aleinware sucks for the money. Build it yourself.....my sig cost 800-900 quid and plays bf2 on all high with no lag.

Where did you buy it from?
And how hard is it to build?

you can buy a quality PC to build yourself from absolutely anywhere

p.s. alienware sucks they were selling a 256MB 7600 gt for 188 without vat added

uk sites that are good for money are they are just a few sites, don't buy anything that says value in it whatsoever, also dont buy from big shitty stores like PC world, comet etc they rip you off like fook. building a PC is easy just follow the instructions that come with the parts and you'll be sorted

OP:

I dont think the quality of Alienware is in doubt, but the value for money is.

If money is no option, then for sure i would go Alienware, but where you have a budget i would consider somewhere else.

Would you want to build your self or buy all built from somewhere?

There we go then get two of em

For your budget and I dont mean anything bad here but basically you cant afford an 'alienware' for what your budget is I know they have machines for that but your basically paying for the machine case and name.  Might as well get a dell for that.

The links other guys have given I would check out but if this is a gaming machine then you MUST have this:

Nvidia 8800 GTS (GTX is all the better but this is still a great card, you certainly need a dx10 capable card)
2048mb of ram (but make sure theres room to expand for 4096mb, as vista is a huge memory hog and a 2gb system will start to strugle)
400 Gb HD Atleast
E6600 Core 2 duo or higher (or equivilent AMD, however intel is the better choice atm)

Top of my head that is roughtly £900, add that to a pretty good monitor which you need to do your GPU justice additional £150-200.

So an £1100 system for you sir, anything above that so much the better, if you have enough for more I suggest the ram for blistering speed, then the Cpu uped to an E6700 perhaps.  The 8800 Gts is a very good card, just not as good as the GTX, but for the time being the benifits of the GTX over the GTS are pretty much braggin rights if I am honest.

Bought all the parts seperately, mainly from www.overclockers.co.uk and www.scan.co.uk It's my first ever attempt at building a custom PC, which i knew hardly anything about. All you got to do is buy the parts, follow the instructions that come with them, and just slot it all together.

Nope from scan.co.uk I think it was, £900 was a good estimate (exc vat though so I guess it was missleading) still not much more, £1,000 systems these days if you shop around and know what you are looking for are fan feckin tastic
