I noticed that when BF2 was released the single player function was not as good as it was in BF1942 (i never played BFV), and then when 2142 was released i was kinda expecting the same thing as in BF2 and instead it has actually got a little worse, well at a guess i will put this down to PC processing power (or rather lack of) and that it takes a large amount of it to run 63 bots, for those who have played the single player mod you will know what i mean, and on my PC its laggy enough at 15 bots (because you are the 16th or 64th person).
And well thats fair enough really but i did think up an alternative angle to the use of single-player, and simply thats training and career points.
It will help immensely if you have played Battlefield Modern Combat in single player, if you have then you can kinda skip the next paragraph but if not:
In that game on single player you can do a variety of tasks which are fairly fun and should they be completed you get stars for them, with a certain number of stars being equal to a rank (50 stars = general rather than 1000 points, and yes i just made both those up), and these tasks being things like a small area full of bots eliminate so many bots as possible before you run out of ammo or the bots get away, and you must do it with a certain weapon. Another example is that you take a boat (or just any vehicle) and get through a course in a set time limit.
Now in 2142 this could be brought back, i imagine the 'dice live team' or whatever they are called won't put this in as a patch but i can imagine that they may try and make a booster pack which this could be included in hence why i bring to see what criticisms and flaws there are in it.
Basically you get a set level of corridors and rooms in a titan style, or a set track (for vehicles), and there are drones (UAV sentry or flying sentry) or bots in specific locations on it. You simply have a level for every weapon and every vehicle and they have 3 difficulties, when you complete a level you get a badge for it and when you complete all 3 you get an unlock as well that could be unlocked as part of a tree but this means that you are given an alternative to ranking up to fill an unlock tree/branch/ladder (whatever you wanna call it)
So as a short example (if you tuned out for the above bit then at least read this):
have a recon level (only allowed recon sniper rifle)
1st level: you run around corridors and shoot UAV drones, you win when all drones are destroyed, you only get so much ammo and there's no way for you to get more, you also have no knife or pistol or grenades or anything, yes you can destroy the UAV drones with the rifles I've done it before, basically it allows you to get to know the recons sniper rifles. You then get 5 career points and a 'trainee recon badge bronze' you can do it as many times as you like but you get no extra career points for doing so.
2nd level: Same again but now you have UAV drones and stationary sentry drones. You do exactly as you did in the first level but this time you might die and there's no way to re-spawn you get the one life and thats it. So you learn to use the rifle better and how to shoot a target that can shoot back rather than just float and blip.
You then get 20 career points and a 'trainee recon badge silver'
3rd level: yep you guessed it, corridors, UAV drones, and sentry drones but this time you have the ones that fly as well. For completing this level you get 40 career points and a 'trainee recon badge gold' AND an unlock, however you do not choose which unlock.
I thought that a cool balanced unlock for a sniper would be a placer beacon type thing. It would do exactly what the vehicle radar does for engineers except it would spot people not vehicles and it would only reveal the enemies position to the sniper (not everyone) and in short bursts like the squad leader UAV drone does. It would be placed on the ground or on an object just like the vehicle radar and blip every 5 seconds till its destroyed, removed or the recon soldier who placed it is killed.
Sorry for making it so long, but i hope you read it anyway, and for those who did what do you think?
