is making a really bad noise...kind of a warbily sound. dunno, its hard to describe

its a 330w. 20-pin generic PSU, powering a Radeon 9550, an athlon 64 3000+, dvd drive, hdd, etc etc.

the sound kind of goes away after start up, but i don't know if thats because the fan stops spinning as fast, or if the 120 mm casefan blocks it out. if i listen very carefully, i can still hear it.

the PC is under warranty for another year and a few months, but i'm getting ready to upgrade just about everything in it.

sooo...to you tech heads, what the hell do i do? do i ignore it, send it in, upgrade sooner?

thanks.

you could always just replace the fan, but it may be easier to upgrade to a new sli psu for about a hundred dollars.
hyper makes a really good psu for cheap. check this out.

"kind of a warbly sound" sounds like the bearings in the fan may be going, or they could jus tbe clogged up with dust. Try giving it a really good blow out and see if anyting comes out.

If you upgrade the PSU it will very probably invalidate your warranty for the whole PC so if you are reliant on the warranty you need to take it into the store where you got it from and tell them.

i just dusted everything the other day, so its probably the bearings.

i'm not too reliant on the warranty as i'm upgrading everything anyways.

Why get it? Because it's future proof. He won't have to upgrade for quite a while.

If you do decide to take it apart and clean it, be really careful not to touch the capacitors or the heat sink as they can carry a very large current even after being unplugged.

939 was out (barely), but some of us have this thing called a budget monty. i'm sixteen. i can only spend so much money. i have no job, and my parents are very strong on getting me to buy my own shit, even though my dad is a doctor and made A LOT of money (more than i'll ever see) off of the stock market.

First off, when you plan on upgrading what do you want?  If you want a DX10 card don't waste money on a little 500w psu.

What kind of computer is it, or is it a custom build?

430W is a bit low for today's standards.

His PC is running on 330w... why is 430w not enough? It's only meant to be a cheap and decent quality replacment for his current system til he upgrades.

Yes but you don't want to spend money on a cheap power supply that he will need to upgrade again for a C2D and 8800

check this one out

I've also heard good things about this one

Well if you are upgrading it, just buy a new PSU.

If you want to go straight for the PSU for the next PC and use that for now then I'd go with Enermax Galaxy

Probably the best PSUs going.
