Ok - I use firefox myself, but my family use IE. Essentially the homepage has been hijacked by ieuptodate.com. I've looked it up online, and it says the website itself isn't dangerous, but clicking any of the links it offers you to remove spyware is. Obviously I'd rather not have the risk hanging over me, or give ieuptodate control over my computer. Websites I've found say that you can't remove it with anti-virus or anti-spyware programs, and you need to do it manually. However, I can't find a clear method to do it. I'm ok with computers, but no expert.

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

EDIT: I've also blocked its access with Zonealarm, so I don't think I'm in any imminent danger (I hope).

Looks like you already got nailed by a virus (Or something a kin of it).

I run both and have not seen that.  However, I hyave seen things like that when I got a trojan.

QFT.  Homepages being hacked is quite sad tbh, and Firefox will help prevent viruses....and other nasty shit.

Hijacking is tricky to resolve since it must be done manually. The first thing to do is download HijackThis. Install and run this program, it will analize your registry and show you the entries that are likely to be hijack and spyware related.

The problem is most of the entries it shows are legitimate entries, you must look carefully for the entries that are relatade to your ieupdate hijack and delete them. If you think you can't do it by yourself, post the results of the Hijack This here and if I have time I'll try to point you in the right way. Good luck!

Hijacking usually explores vulnerabilities in Javascript and ActiveX, that means you can have your browser hijacked by simply visiting the wrong site. Raise the security level of your IE so that it asks you before showing activeX components on web pages. That way, when you are visiting any "suspicious" sites, specially porn, you can block these components.

if this is true, then go here.  This is Symantec's Threat Explorer's site, and it is usally a good place to learn how to remove viruses/trojans/or other black software from your computer.

i've gotten a virus before that was a bitch to get rid of. it was one of those ones that hides itself in your ram and checks every minute or so to see if you have the files. if they arent there (ie you deleting them), it puts the virus files back there.

i had to get a list of the bad files from ewido, and then go into safe mode and take them out manually.

you may need to do somethign like that. it's tedious, but it worked for me.
