So your saying that my parents' 42 inch plasma screen will give me better quality (which only runs at 640 x 480 pixels) then my 17 inch screen that will give me 1280 x 1024?
mmm...kay.. bigger isn't allways better you know..

The image quality on a 17" LCD is technically a little sharper, because both use the same resolution, you actually have more pixels in a smaller area on the 17".  The smaller spacing between pixels results in a sharper image.  However, I would dare say that you would be hard pressed to see such differences with the human eye.  Text might show it, but with true type fonts turned on, you take care of that.

With that said, go with the 19" panel.

Your plasma screen runs at 640x480? That's a really bizarre resolution for a plasma screen. Especially since it's not even a widescreen resolution.

I find that extremely hard to believe. What's the model number?

When it comes to monitors, bigger = better. Bigger screens tend to have higher resolutions and whilst the response times go down as screens get bigger, these days that is not too much of a problem.

Spend a little bit more and get a 22", £199 - bargain.

I thought it was 640 x 480, maybe somewhat higher, but not high anyway. I don't know the model number, don't even know where I can find it .

Widescreen is fine in BF2. Have to set the resolution through the command line.

My 10 year old CRT does higher than that. It supports 1024x768, but looks a bit blury like that, I think it's interpolated. Probably 800x600 native.

I'd be suprised if your plasma screen has a native resolution below 1280x720.

If I have the time and interest in doing so I might reconnect my PC to the plasma TV again, maybe as soon as I have upgraded it

so, is this Hanns-G good value? will it last me? does having a widescreen affect anything else?

What Bert said about the widescreen.

And about the bluring on most games its fine, but on some games you'll notice ghosting, particularly on things with really sharply defined edges that contrast with the background, like name tags on MMORPGs, when people are running about you'll see a ghosting effect behind the name tag. On games like BF2 and the like it dont really matter all that much.

I wouldn't go any higher than 6ms TBH. But thats me, if i see a defect like ghosting on something I've spent a decent ammount of cash on I get pissed off lol.

No. 'Fraid not.

Try this:

Or for a tighter budget:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =MO-005-BE

I've tested both of these and they're both great! I'm running a very similar one myself at the moment.

The ones you posted from Microdirect look ok too. Not super special though.

Gonna sound like a twat here but I'm not trying to be seriously so dont take it the wrong way but, are you like a Belinea sales person? lol

Incidentally I've never heard of them so can't comment on how good they are for those prices.

EDIT: coz im making too many posts here lol

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Productinf … ctID=15706 <---- 3ms for not much more. Not a brand I know but the specs say "win".

Im also reading of some problems running bf2 with widescreen... can you confirm how to make it work and does the picture look stretched?

Nope. I'm totally unaffiliated with Belinea. I've just had a lot of very good experiences with them so I've bought a lot of them and done a lot of them in with computers I've built for people.

They're damn good. Them and Samsung are my favourites at the moment.

Well you have 2 choices, either you stretch it to fit (it dosnt look as bad as the pansies make out)

Or you run it "letterboxed" and you get black bars down each side and it runs like it was on a normal monitor with no picture at the sides.

EDIT: for Bert. I have a Samsung, love the little bitch to bits. 1500:1 contrast 6ms response time (keep in mind this was a while ago when 6 was as fast as you could get) so if Belinea can match Sammys for quality you cant go wrong.

I run it in 1680x1050. It looks nice.

You don't need to stretch it or run it letter boxed. You just set the GPU to render in the right resolution. It has a minor effect on field of view.

Still say win lol

Looks bloody good to me, talk to Bert about widescreening, he'll know more about it than I do as I don't have a widescreen monitor so I'm just going from educated guess work really. I'd imagine what he said was correct and I can give you the command lines for forcing BF2 to get in the correct resolution, I've just seen so many people whining about their picture being distorted when theyve set the res right I figured it was another BF2 fuck up to add to the list.
