Hey all

I recently bought a new LCD HDTV from newegg, as part of their black friday special. It is the Olevia 37" LCD HDTV, and this TV has a VGA port! Really cool.

I've been trying to launch battlefield 2 with the TV connected, though I am having the common problem "black screen, then shuts off back to windows desktop"

I have tryed manually setting the resolution to start in by enterting "+szx xxxx +szy xxxx" in the shortcut properties, and tryed setting the game to 60hz, which I believe it is set at.

Battlefield 2142 runs without a problem, which really bothers me, because BF2 is cooler than bf2142.


Any help would be much appreciated
(BTW, I have done some work; spent about 30 mins. googling the issue before resulting to the forum. No flaming )

I don't know if anyone has got bf2 working in a higher resolution than 1280, I tried by editing the size in the shortcut, but in any resolution higher than 1280 it didn't work ( my max res is 1600 x 1280 ) so a monitor / video card was out of the way.

From what you wrote, you can work in your lcd screen in any other application, its just bf2 that is not working.

Try bf2 in 800x600, and the refresh rate to match your lcd screen one usually 60.

Thats pretty much what I can suggest.

have you figured out how to fix this problem? i got the Oleviua 27in LCD widescren and i cant get BF2 to load

You have to set the +szx and +syx numbers to the resolution your desktop is set at. I've got bf2 hooked to my hdtv (47" Samsung) via DVI and tried to run it at 1920x1080 (I play HL2 in this mode) and it wouldn't start. Oddly, to have my desktop centered and scaled correclty, my resolution is at 1156x656 right now. It runs fine in that, just like FEAR, so it should work for you.

Don't forget, +menu +fullscreen 1 +szx XXXX +syx XXXX... seems you need the +menu and +fullscreen 1.

AFAIK, it works on wide-screen, it just doesn't have full texture or something like that support. Meaning things may look a bit stretched out, as opposed to having it all rendered/drawn so that it looks nice.

BF2 works fine on my 32" HD Lcd widescreen... wish I could help you...

Battlefield 2142 Wide Screen . in order to use wide screen on bf 2142 or even bf2 as well as S.F ,right click on  desktop icon for your game ,go to properties, and add too the target line "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1  szx 1680 x syz 1050   then click on apply, then ok. add your screens resolution to the highlighted area ,szx represents the vertical resolution, and syz represents horizontal resolution.then start game from desktop as usual.

I had the same issue, I changed the aspect ratio to 4:3 and works perfectly on 1024x768.
