OK, need to verify something here.

I downloaded this program that tells you pretty much everything about yuor PC, HWinfo32 I think it's called.

Anyway, I recently bought a gig of ram and it said it runs at 667MHz. I go onto this program and it says the ram is actually running at something like 262.1MHz, so pretty much a third of the speed it should be?

Surely this has an effect on performance... yeah?

Oh and btw I have overclocked, why should that affect underclocking of the ram?

Hellow again!

How much ram do you have in total?

Is your newly bought ram of the same speed/latency as the already installed ram in the machine?  If not then there is your problem.

1 gig ram in total. Was replaced in favour of this new ram, but only noticed this now. It's in dual channel, 512mb per slot.

does your motherboard support 667mhz ram?

yes, checked before

i would go into bios and set your ram to manual control. set the divider to 667 MHz and put in the timings manually. then everything should run at the quoted speeds

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

OK, I'll give it a go, what exactly do you mean by the timings?

for example: clicky. (click view all specs) this ram operates at 5-5-5-12 timings, and you should key that into your bios. your ram may have different timing so check the manufacturers page for your model. it should say so somewhere

EDIT: you can also download cpu-z and it should tell you the standard timing for each speed. its in the spd tab

Because I've overclocked, I can only select something like 575MHz or 710MHz

Since 667 is the highest, I can only select 575 it won't let me key in 667.

Man I hate comps lol

seeing as fsb x multi = cpu speed, you could lower your multiplier by 1, increase the fsb accordingly to get the same cpu speed and thereby oc your ram on a divider that puts you just below your max mem speed. also depending on your ram, you should be able to reach 710 without much hassle.

posting up your specs and possible dividers would help a lot.

EDIT: this is a great guide on ocing AMD A64's. for intels the same principles apply, just that you dont have to worry about the HT multis
