IDK on from what i know openGL is 4 like work station computers not 3d gaming
Lolz. OpenGL was used in the before time.
Basically its a different renderer. You have Direct3D, OpenGL, and DirectDraw (usually software, ie: poo).
You can't choose which one. Its two panes for two renderers.

My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.
Doom 3 had a boner for OpenGL
3DFx canes all. Glide FTW!

pretty much, is how the 2D-3D programs work.
ej, BF2 is "coded" and works with directx, but other software will run in openGL

D3D
most never games used that, OpenGL was used by the 1st origional games like doom and stuff (old skool )
they never removed it though as some games it is required aswell as D3D for some reason

lol i remember having open GL as a scrren saver when we had windows 98
OpenGL and D3D are APIs. Some games can support both, but most only support one of them. Most Windows based games are now running on D3D. OpenGL is still alive today because it isn't platform dependent. This is the API that is still used on Linux (and other open source OS') and the Mac OS.
correct dung bomb
95% of windows game's use d3d
bascially id software these day's with quake 4 and doom3 are the only guys using openGL
although i beilive X3 uses opengl also and maybe a few other titles, but its very very very few
opengl is actually good, if done right
micro$ just has a strangle on things as usual and has since the late 90's when it comes to graphic api's for real time games
