Honestly? I'd just sit back and wait til you can get the 6600 and a DX10 card, save buying stuff twice.

January sales FTW!

I know it sounds so cheap but in all honesty though lol check out what kind of savings are to be made then and you will obviously get a superior machine for your cash .

Look, I know I'm probably being silly, but I just can't help but be in love with Corsair's Dominator series. Not only are they great DIMMs, but you can comb your hair with their heat spreaders.

hmm, i'd rather not lag with 18 fps in a crowded 64 player server.

You could still get it in january and pass it off as a late delivery!  DAMM POST OFFICE!

I guess you could get away with the E6400 but you may wanna consider oc'n it, therefor make sure that thing is well ventilated.

What monitor do you have?

You may also want to consider a slightly higher psu, 8800's are a real drain.

NO. That rig is fine the way it is. If he wants an 8800, he should put together a new PC entirely, or face bottlenecking.

Disagree, he state's he cant afford one right now (not the only one) but no doubt he will indeed want one eventually, so instead of encouring the cost of an entire new PSU, buying a 20% more expensive PSU with roughly a 20% higher price would make a lot of sense.  To get the best out of an 8800 the best CPU would be great, but the C2D's can do it justice even at the lower end of the scale, and with an over clock up to E6600 speed's then what on earth would be the point in a different rig?

Lol, ok, for Christmas(if I sell my current comp... ) I will get a new computer. And here is what I'm thinking, since i am on a $1000 budget.

Case
Motherboard
E6400. 6600 is too expensive.
Good Corsair XMS RAM
I'll upgrade to Dx10 later... now I cant afford it. I can either not upgrade at all and wait for dx10 card, or this and get dx10 when it is more utilized... exactly...
Raptors are too expensive also...
Simple PSU
LOLDVDDRIVEZOMGH4X

Any suggestions to get more for under 1000$ ?
That PSU is gonna EXPLODE!!! Spend at least $60-80 on a psu.

Good selection.  That will run BF2 or 2142 really well.  The only thing I might reconsider is the motherboard, particularly if you are planning to upgrade in the future.  You are well under $1000 I believe (+/- $852 plus shipping).

If you did decide you wanted to put in a little more cash, I would suggest an upgrade on the motherboard.  Either way, it is a good computer at a good price.  Methinks anyway.

I'm sorry what?! the 6400 has 2MB cache the 6600 has 4MB cache. Even OCd it'd be poor in comparison.

I'd just get the cash for Christmas and buy it in a month and get shit loads better components, if your olds can't see the logic in giving you the cash now and letting you wait a month for a decent deal they need brain transplants or something.

I'll just pick all the holes in it I can and you can think about whether they matter to you or not and decide.

6400 inferior to the 6600, 6600 = bang/buck=win, it's simply the best value, mainly due to having double the cache.

Mobo = Fine I guess, it's gonna limit your CPU summin awful though not being able to take any RAM over DDR2 667. Conroes happily dry hump 1066Mhz RAM and you wont even be able to upgrade to that.

RAM = slow IMO, as above it's like half what your CPU (whichever you choose) can work with.

Graphics = Anything other than DX10 would be a waste, you'll just be replacing it sooner rather than later.

HDD = Fine

PSU = Never heard of em and at that price I'd be dubious of it's quality. Enermax Galaxy's are the best going ATM but they cost a fortune so maybe one of the lower range Enermax PSUs would be better.

I know you're on a budget but if you wait just a tiny bit pretty much everything I said would be attainable for $1000 or maybe a ickle bit more.

I think Antec is whats left of Aspire. A case I bought a year back was Aspire. Now its the same exact thing and it has Antec all over it.

I would go for a Thermaltake or a similiar brand PSU. It aint about the voltage but you rather go for quality. 700 watts of crap doesnt = 475 watts of thermaltake quality.
