So, i wanna try one of those ubernerd games, like wow, with buildable characters and all, but i don't wanna toss money down on an expensive one and then pay for a subscription on something i won't like much. Any suggestions? plz try to be more detailed than "WOW FTW!", pics would be appreciated. and for the record, i did like the warcraft single player stuff of old, though the campaigns were a wee short.

oh and i did try galaxies some time ago (if you saw a character named after a bond villain, or a whore named "Oosh-Oosh Oo-shoosh", that's a me), but it kinda flaked out, even the x-box morrowind seemed more developed than that.

you can join a WoW emulator server. also SWG is in the process of making a pre-cu EMU. and no you obviously dont have to pay the monthly fee.

Wow would be your best bet. Oblivion is also great as long as you don't mind that there isn't any multilpayer.

To this day I still prefer shooters over rpgs.

well most of these games have free trials which u can try

i tried WoW, and hated it.  In my opinion though, even if i loved the game, i would never pay monthly to play a game.  I tried Auto Assault and loved it and played it through my 14 day trial but it expired .

if u want u can give Guild Wars i try...if i remember correctlly u have to buy the game at the store, but there is no monthly fee

i hopped on the D&D online bandwagon when it was released. turns out the game sucks ass and is boring as hell. i should have went with WoW if anything, but i didn't, and now i don't care to.

but i'd suggest WoW. blizzard is a great game developer.

I'd put a vote into WoW.  The big Blizz did a pretty good job on this game.  But be prepared to give up part of your life if you involve yourself in any MMORPG.  Remember to water yourself and periodically turn towards the light.

i get bored real easy, that's why i always try to command in the battlefield series, i like studying tactics and all, most people can't handle me as i can be a bit of a hardass, in fact i've been booted for "abusing team mates" (this usually happens when admins don't follow my orders for some odd reason). that and my squads don't last long, i flame them like hell for lone wolfing and leaving me to defend a flag against 2 walkers alone. i've run the civilization and total war games into the ground, and figured one of these might have some fps kinda action (ok with swords not guns) mixed with some strategic elements when it comes to weapons/armor loadouts and such. dunno if i can handle the nerd trooping though, i hate team speaking stuff.

perhaps most importantly, which one is the least anal retentively governed, i understand they gotta protect their customers online experience, but damn, they didn't let me name my character "pussy galore" in galaxies, she was a classic bond villain for christs sake

Kracker, I think you should try the good old Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne over the Battle.net. It's a true pleasure for the mind, the game at this point is almost as balanced as chess. It's all about strategy, tactics and control. The winner is not the one with more time spent playing, but the one with better tactics and skills.

It's true though.  I started playing that game in high school before they had the new 3d version.  I don't know why I still play it...it's seriously the worst game ever created.  Although it's incredibly balanced and there's a TON of stuff to do in it.

The game sucks, but it's hella addictive.  And you know I'm being honest because I used the word 'hella'.
