Hello,

My current hard drive is crap,  just shit, It`s only 2MB cache, just way too slow. It`s 120GB though, but I don`t need that much space. Just a faster hdd, like 8MB cache.

Does anybody have an old IDE connectable HDD for me, More cache if possible

I would like to buy one but because I`m just a poor student, I don`t have the money

You`ll be a great help!

Thanks,

Try eBay and if your motherboard supports it, get a SATA HDD. The cache size wont effect the speed of the HDD, the rpm will. Get one thats at least 7,200rpm.

no the cache wont make much difference, its the platter speed (5400rpm, 7200, 10k etc) and data density per platter that makes a difference to transfer rate.

More or less, yes. Depending on the type of cache and how you configure it, what controller you use etc. etc. But for the average windoze, HDD cache is pretty irrelevant.

for the original poster:
If you have a 120MB disk with 7200RPM at the moment, and you think it's too slow, I'd recommend you look at your Mobo as a asource of the problem. Ofcourse your disk could just need defragging.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6822148143 ATA100 16MB Cache

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6822145091 ATA133 8Mb Cache

(Doubt You'd see much performance increase TBH)

I suggest:
