East of Greece is the mediterranean, ever taken a course on this stuff in school? And if you understood, he introduced the greek language to more people than anyone could have imagined, hence the term "unification".

Yeah William Wallace "won". If you class your country being under the control of another for several centuries, and you personally being hung, drawn and quartered and the pieces being sent to the four corners of England as "winning", then yeah I'm "sour" about our "losses".

Possibly a biased statement coming from an English citizen about a man who attacked England...  And NEVER relate a film to actual history.  The fact of the matter is he led a successful rebellion against your country.  I'm sorry.  It happened centuries ago.  The world hasn't changed much because of it, but it happened.  Don't play it down because it makes your patriotism suffer.
Successful??? How exactly was Wallace successful? He got hung, drawn and quartered and the Scots were still under Englands rule. Doesn`t sound very successful to me.

But back to the main point of the topic, i`d say Genghis Kahn. Closely followed by Alexander the Great.

Why, Arthur Wellesley a.k.a Wellington of course. The Peninsular Wars seals that. Ok, he may not come above Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan, but he comes a respectable third.

Not forgetting the Byzantine contribution:

Heraklius

John Tzimikes

At least one of these three should be in the top five...

Britain is the greatest power to have ever existed. Even the "mighty" United States today is nowhere near as powerful and influential as Britain was at the height of its power.

Largest empires (ancient and modern)

...

You're comparing a more modern empire to an ancient empire, which is unfair to say the least.  The introduction of new technology made it far easier to control a larger empire, making it more feasible.

British Empire - 36 million km²
Mongol Empire - 35 million km²
And you're not even ahead by that much.
