This may have just been a issue with my specific motherboard, but since I 1st purchased BF2 (back in july of 05) i've had to live with low FPS in combat situations & no higher than medium-low w/ a x800GTO at around 35-40FPS. Mean while hearing about other people running rhe game smoothly with 9800pro's & regular x800's. SO the past year has been nothing but frustrating with BF2, but my FPS was managable, so I kept playing, but keep in mind 64 man servers & maps like Mashtuur & Sharqi were off limits due to there system killing ways...got around 25FPS @ con site on sharqi.
So after a little tip off from a buddy on xfire about my AGP bus itself possibley having a problem, I went ahead & went into the BIOS & set LDR > AGP frequency to 4x, then in SMARTGART settings in the CCC panel I set it to 4x also.
Restarted my PC, started BF2 not expecting any change (due to the 600000 other tweaks ive tryed over the past year w/ little to no result) I then joined a full 64 man karkand Server w/ the same settings...medium/low 0x AA 1024x768.
Typed the FPS command renderer.drawfps 1 and what I saw almost made me fall out of my chair....93FPS.
I spawned at square and into a hellhole of fighting...at least 50 players were at square......86FPS......WTF.
I jumped up out of my chair joyful as hell....I couldnt believe this slight tweak garnered me nearly a 60FPS boost....not to mention the FPS is steady....80-100....100 in light combat...80-90 in massive combat.
So I exit the server...go into settings....set everything to High except for textures.....this time 4x AA....
Join a different server....Insomnia Mashtuur 24/7....78FPS....never dropped below 65 in all the fighting.
So wtf happened, why did this tweak massively boost my system, could it have been the 8x was broken on my mobo or something. Either way im so pleased I almost pissed myself in happeiness haha.
So god does love me...err ya I hope.
