I recently purchased Battlefeild 2142. I have a laptop with all the necissary requirments and i have made an EA downloader account and installed the latest patch. Whenever i try to start up Battlefeild the screen flashes black for a breif second and then fails to start the game. Please advise me of what to do next.
Thank you in advance,
Rob

I tryed running BF2 on my lappy and I got the same thing, if the graphics card is Intel then you've got problems.

And yeah machine specs/ Laptop make and version we can't help if we don't have any info

you may meet all the hardware requirements, except in the video card category.

if you can, post a link to the laptop you have so we can take a look at what you got.

Time and time again I have discovered that laptop hardware is consciously omitted from game design.  I don't know how Dell or Alienware can go on about their powerful laptop systems when they must know how much software will never work.

And yes, it's the graphics card which usually does you in.

try going to www.laptopvideo2go.com.  Most laptop videocards have programming that is good for business stuff but bad for gaming.  This site offers drivers that unlock the programming and switch it to it's gaming equivalent (since the hardware for the gaming and business cards are essentially the same).  I used it on my laptop which has a 110M card in it and the program unlocked it and it is now running as a GeForce Go 7300.

Go to start/control pannel/system.  In the system screen select the hardware tab and click on the device manager button which should bring up a window with a bunch of expandable boxes.   Click on the box next to display adapters to find out what card you have.

Forget the rest of my instructions concerning the driver replacement.  Your comp simply can't run it without an upgrade.

Intel® 82945G Express Chipset
Battlefield 2* Game Fails to Launch

When Battlefield 2* game is launched, the splash screen is displayed and then the game exits to the desktop.

Intel is not aware of a fix or workaround for this issue. Contact the game manufacturer  †  for further updates, patches or support.

this is what i found from the intel website. not too promising considering 2142 isn't that much different.

sorry man.

i wasn't being agressive.

i was merely telling you that you have that chipset (ie onboard video card). regardless, it won't run bf2142.

Try adding the following to the "Target" line under properties for the shortcut you are using to start 2142.

+szx 1680 +szy 1050

Change the 1680 and 1050 to match the resolution of your laptop screen. When I first got my LCD monitors I was having the same problem you were because the native resolution of my monitor could not be matched by any of the standard resolutions that 2142 used. Adding these settings fixed the problem. Just an idea.

I'll put it bluntly to save on hassle and wasted time. Your laptop can't play 2142 as it wasn't designed to in anyway be even slightly capable of playing modern games, and it can't be upgraded to play 2142, the graphics card can't be replaced thus you're stuck with that janky Intel thing.

Hate to say it but if you wanted to game on that laptop you bought a dud bud.
