Ya, I've been brushing up on my fish husbandry. I'll spare you the latin names of all the critters and foliage, but It's all natural live plants.
If enough people post pix of their tanks, we can have a vote.
Cmon people, show me your wet wigglies.

I used to have tropical fish ages ago, but before we went on holiday one year my Mum turned off the heater. When we came back there was a shit-load of upside-down fish I can tell you.

I had some oscars, three actually. They fought non-stop, it was awesome, but they eventually killed eachother, one was remaining and he was pretty battered. So I bought a Texas Ciclid (Or something) and it killed it off. It was like Roman Gladiators...In a fish tank.

ATG, cheers with your live plants.  I know they are harder to take care of than fake plants.

Crap.  Let me just post the pic people are going to flame me with.

I do not have an image of mine, but I can tell you about it.

It has a very large rock on the left, in the center there is a heat rock.  On the left I have a fake log that is hollow in the center.  Behind that I have a green net, with a plastic bowl in the enter.  The floor of the tank is wood chips.

Thats pretty sweet ATG.  My tank is all crappy, my filter pump stopped working so the water is starting to get kinda dirty.  I would post a pic, but it would look like a lake.

lol, I actually did a google search for 'dirty fish tank' and I almost posted that pic with it, because I almost added the line "so here is an improvised pic" and put that......

thats weird.  Its not that bad yet, I gotta get a new pump....maybe tomorrow I can, or the next few days anyway.

lol funny well I guess if the fish thinks the plastic plants are real, then I guess they're good enough (though I wonder if the plastic plants might kill him eventually by him eating them)

Thats the main reason why I'm trying to find a home for my ciclids. I've come to enjoy the plants more than the fish and the little rat bastards constantly harass them. I have to chuck or replantt something daily.
And Mudguts, I wouldn't mine seeing your fish, wheres the link?

Hi..

I had tadpoles at one stage. Kept them in a plastic ice-cream container. Left the lid off one night, and the container outside, and next morning found half of them as frogs and dead, and the other half gone..

This is more of a pic of what's in the tank than the tank itself...

https://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-11/486014/killer2.jpg

and here is an overhead shot...

I'm not a photographer, so it looks crappy.  Also they are old, so most the stuff isn't in there anymore.

Contents of 12 gallon tank:Killer (Tiger Salamander)Lava Rock (same one in pic)Lots of that same gravelA few plastic plants similar to that red one

His name is Killer because he is pretty aggressive.  He would eat me if he could fit me in his mouth, trust me, he's tried.  As you can see, he already ate the snail that was cleaning his cage.  The lava rock serves two purposes: he can climb on it to get higher / out of the water and he can rub on it to shed his skin.  The gravel is in there because he likes to dig for grubs (which aren't in there, but hey, he can have his fun) and digs holes around the rock to hide in.  I had more plants, but they are hard to keep in place, because he thinks all the grubs are hiding by the roots (that aren't there either) and digs them all up.  The plants that are there are superglued in place and serve as a preliminary filter for when he sheds his skin.  It used to clog my filter up about three times a month, but now it gets caught on the plants and is easily removed.

Any ideas on how to make it look prettier (ie more plant life and such)?  I'll take more pics if you guys want, but it's basically a rock in the middle of some pebbles.

I like uniformed color gravel. Maybe a smaller size too.
Maybe some attractive wood in additionn to the rock.

In my tank I have a Day Gecko.  My brother had him before me an named him Ecko, so we just keep the name.  He is also aggressive, and quick.  He bit my brother and drew blood.  I do not have to keep my tank wet, so we have wood chips.  It is funny when I feed him crickets, and he grabs the wood chips instead.

Before I got the Oscars I had some Black mollys, placostamuses (sp?), neon tetras and some kinda other fish...And BEFORE that we tried just one Texas Ciclid. When he got big, we fed him those little feeder fish. That was fun to watch.

Have you ever seen an alligator (or crocodile, I forget which is which) eat a gazelle on the animal planet?  That's what it's like if anything ventures into killers cage.  He grabs ahold of it and shakes it so violent I'm afraid Killer is going to hurt himself on the side of the cage or the rock.  He has hit the rock so hard he was stunned for a few seconds and the bug got away.  Mostly I just feed him things I find around the house, since they're native to this area.  I've gone up to a month w/o feeding him when I was gone and he's been fine, so I figure the bugs must go in there on their own too.

The only time I kept fish was when we had Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) Tournaments.

They cost 3 baht a piece here... so for a dollar you can get 13-14 fish and fight with them.

Unethical? Sure. But there's thousands on sale for this purpose.
