In the U.S. we call them opossums!  They're just like rats, but huge and damned near invincible!  My buddy once shot one three times on his back porch and it was still walking away.  I felt sorry for it so I went to cut its head off with an axe, but the axe didn't penetrate the skin.  (Luckily I broke it's neck so it would have to suffer.)

I'm pretty sure, but with my awesome camera phone I can only get pictures that make people look like a sasquatch.  In the second one you can see how big its head was if you look close.  (The rat is looking to his left.) Before I get flamed for killing an inocent animal or something, please know that I tried for about 30 minutes to scare it away, but it just hissed and attacked me and then went back to eating cat food.

Yeah, I believe it. I shot one of those bastards five times a few years back when it attacked one of my mom's kittens. Left it laying there on the ground, still breathing, to go find something to finish it off with, but when I got back a few minutes later it was gone.

Do you have rat envy?  Or just Maglight envy?  In reality, I bet Africa or Australia has bigger pests than we do and Maglights are for sale pretty much everywhere (I think).  My personal flashlight is a Surefire 6P and measures at 5.1 inches (12.95 cm).

Yeah we have some pretty damn big pests here but its illegal to shoot em, then again they are making it harder to get visas so that should help with the pest problem.

OH crap you mean vermin type pests sorry I was thinking about the English cricket team again (ooh cheap shot there ol' boy)

As far as nasty critters go lets just say most pests in Australia are more than capable of sitting your ass in hospital for a few days if you dont treat them with the respect they deserve and kill them with your first shot.
As for tree hugging hippies flaming you for killing an innocent creature, well let 'em. When you have spent time on a farm (ranch) half the size of Texas and see the sort of crap that introduced/noxious and or overpopulated pests, vermin and even native animals can cause then come talk to me about shooting things.
