I need to know what would be the best settings for me to take some vids without having major lag.

My PC:
AMD 3800+ AM2
2GB DDR2
7950GT 512MB

My resolution in BF2142 is 1024x768 if you needed to know.  +1 for any good advice!

As low as possible, even with that setup. You just need to experiment, I don't know what constitutes major lag for you.

You shouldn't lag with those specs.

Put the fraps at half-size, and on 60FPS.

Well basicly I want to record a whole round and upload it to youtube or something like that.

Oh well half size you could probably run max settings decently. Full size, not so much. Though again, you won't know until you try.

Record with Medium Settings, half size Fraps, and whatever Frame rates you want, I recommend 30 FPS.

What kind of compression did you use?

I use Fraps on like 45FPS, half-size, 1024x768 all high settings and I get 30 - 40 FPS. With your specs, you should be able to pull 60+ FPS with Fraps.

Youtube usually does a horrible job in their compression making the video graphics look trashy. Try using a different website like filefront and see if it makes a difference. Also, to reduce lag go to a server that utilizes the battlerecorder. Once the round is completed, replay it and record it with fraps.

How do I got about using that with divx?  Cause they always come out in .wmv file extention.

Can someone tell me how I can take the .avi file that was made by fraps and convert it to what I need to use youtube.  And I can't get my sound to work with fraps...

Get that -> http://www.virtualdub.org/
Get divx or xvid (xvid.org or divx.com)
Run VirtualDub, open your video, goto Video -> Compression and select divix or xvid, then goto File -> Save as AVI

It's your compression that's screwing your video. When fraps makes the videos they're uncompressed so they look great but are monster huge, so you have to compress them. If you use a crappy compression scheme your video will look like that. xvid or divx are pretty much the interent standards and do a good job.

You don't have to use virtual dub, Windows Movie Maker and others probably can do the same thing, but I've grown up using Virutal Dub so thats what I know how to do.

Try uninstalling or unplugging your mike - I'll bet you have one - a made a fraps vid the other day but instead of game audio it was me and my friend laughing because I had the mike in. Vids i made before i had a mike worked normal.

once i'm in the game, i just hit the video-recording shortcut key, using FRAPS, and later go to Community in BF2..

OR
view the saved video..
