mmmkay.. so dad wants a Christmas idea so i figured, what the hell, he can get me a motherboard *crosses fingers*

I'm already guna get an E6600 so now i just need a motherboard...

I've narrowed it down to three but which one's the best? (or if you have another one that is in that price range through it out there)
1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131025
2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131028
3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813188009

the third one has me a little confused, why three PCI Express x16 slots?

thanks in advance..

I think they just fixed the bios problems on them.

look up a little thing called 'benchmark'.

Tom's Hardware: Worst Core 2 Duo Listed (6400) vs. best X2 listed

Ignoring the EE and FX's, they's for crazies with lots of cash.. Kmarion, I'm looking at you ...

alright so i'm getting the third motherboard... but i don't want to destroy it with a really heavy heatsink, but i've been looking at this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835118003

bad choice?

Well I advise running and checking the temps before purchasing the heatsink that's right for you.

well I could save like 20 bucks by just buying the CPU without a heatsink fan so should i just get the stock one or get the processor alone with the Zalman

one thing about intel: their stock heatsinks suck. balls.

zalmann is good...my friend has the 120mm copper one, but ive been eying the 9500 myself...

even with that in mind, E6600 is cheaper (and with overclock) probably has a fair bit more power in it to.
not sure about EVGA mobo's, but the 680i chipset would make me read lots of reviews for the board, to check reliability and build quality but otherwise yeah number 3 sound cool. good luck

Only problem is that when you buy a "bare" CPU it is usually what is called gray market meaning it came out of the backdoor of Dell, Micron, Gateway or some such other company as overage and you almost always only get a 30 day warranty. If you were to spend a couple more dollars and get a retail boxed CPU you get a 3 year Intel (or AMD) Warranty and then you can buy any fan you want.... think about it.

What most people fail to realize is that for the most part retail boxed CPU's come from the center of the die while OEM or GM bare CPU's can come from anywhere on the die, not that it makes that much of a difference, but some feel that the choice silicon is in the center of the die.

As far as the 680I board goes.. sure go for it, almost all of the 680I boards are reference and are made by Nvidia anyways (Biostar-EVGA-ECS) the high end Asus boards being the exception.. so get whichever is the cheapest (take a close look.. almost all of them even that EVGA have no branding on them sans a simple sticker and they are EXACTLY the same boards). every new chipset will have some issues, and if you are counting on the reviews at NE to tell you how good a product is... DON'T.. a lot of reviewers have no idea what the hell they are talking about.

You'll love the C2D and yes it is very fast, even the 6300 and 6400 are incredibly fast and overclock very well due to the fact that they only have 2MB Cache. The heatsink that ships with Retail boxed processors are fine, if you want to perform massive overclocks then you should look at getting another heatsink/fan but it is not necessary for normal operation.

The Idea that you will be able to change the Core Multiplier UP is incorrect.. Intel has granted the ability to change the Core Multiplier DOWN only...

For those that might say I am incorrect, my processor has "Intel Confidential" laser etched onto it... does yours????
