During install I notice it says patching to 1.1, well that's kinda odd because 1.12 is already out and installed. I get through it all and try to play and yep - you must update to the current version. Now I have to re-download 1.12 (I can't find it save on my system) and since it's saturday on a holiday weekend, it's estimating 6+ hours to download the 280 meg patch !!! And I'm on cable !!! Friggin idiots at EA are offering this as a direct download, it should be up to date and not reverting to an old patch. I could see if it was on a CD that may have been written before 1.12, but I got it directly from EA via download just today and not only is it not updated, it forces you to revert to an outdated and unsuable version.

So is there anywhere else, besides the single EA server linked on their page, to get the 1.12 patch? Because now not only can I not play SF, I can't even play regular BF2 anymore until I get the 1.12 patched up again.

you shouldn't have had a problem. i always install expansions before i patch to update to prevent such a problem, and then i save the patch my HD and then to a disc.

If you would have read the v1.12 readme, you'd have seen this:
================================================================================
Patch v1.12
================================================================================

IMPORTANT
- If you have installed the 1.12 patch to core Battlefield 2 and then installed
   Battlefield 2: Special Forces, you will need to re-apply the 1.12 patch again
   to be able to play on 1.12 Servers.
I swear, they need to rename these README.TXT files, to DONT-README.TXT. Seriously!

Here's a link to a recent thread asking the same question: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?pid=65099#p65099

I never read those things, LOL. I guess you're in the minority that does. Anyway, an hour later I got it from another site and have it back up and running. But rather than add a "you're screwed" warning in the readme file, perhaps they should just use the correct patch in their new $30 download in the first place.

Well, maybe you'll start reading them now!

Generally, you don't have to read the whole document. But taking a quick peek to read the initial comments in them, can be helpful when things don't quite work out right.

I just read the list of fixes on the website, which is what I usually find in the update readme files anyway. But just because it's there doesn't take away my critisizm of EA for including an out-of-date patch to a just released dowload.

But thanks for the info guys, I'm a little smarter now
