I've got:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ overclocked to 2.3 GHz
Sapphire X850 XT PCIx16 overclocked to Platinum Edition performance
2GB RAM (DDR333 I think)
KN8 Ultra nForce 4 mobo by Abit

When nothing too interesting is going on, I get between 30 and 60 fps.  However, when I get into CQC or when anything explodes/deafens me, I drop to 10-15 fps, which makes it impossible to play.  I stopped playing for about 2 months so I don't know if there's known issues with recent patches or what, but I KNOW my fps shouldn't be this bad...  I'm running the game at 1024x768@60Hz with everything on high except shadows, on medium, and AA off.  What can I do, aside from lowering settings, which I will also implement?

Your video card sounds nice on paper, but in reality its not the best. I have the AGP version and my bro has your card. he had the exact same problem. Make sure your mobo is compatible, that was the problem he had and now has new card and runs great. That card was not compatible with some MOBOS.

That RAM is a little slow, that could be the problem.

Those framerates don't seem that far off.

You're right, you should be getting higher... Ive never 10-15 fps and I got a P4C 3,0 ghz and a geforce 7800gs, which is lower than your rig...

however apart from agreeing with you, I dont really know what could be the prob, download the newest version of your chipset driver, sometimes it helps. Update your video card driver too..

Check if there isnt bad process running behind your game, might be the prob

Good luck mate.

his ram is slow, but not enough to make his fps drop as much as 10-15...

I won't argue about that, but I think ATI has still the best agp card on the market, which is the x850 XT PE...

anyway he got a better cpu too...

thats my card. It works great for an AGP. but the PCIE version kinda blows.

I thought the performance of the PCI-E version was the exact same thing as the agp version...

on paper yes. But it often differs with Mobo more on PCI-E than AGP.

PCI-E is a more advanced interface, though it may suffer in the instance of that card due to its design. Generally PCI cards are better.

Use fraps or type in renderer.drawFps 1 into the BF2 console.

Yea. PCI-E cards are WAY better, but that card specifically is on the low end of PCI-E where as it is on the high end of AGP. like i said before, make sure your mobo isnt Nvidia specific or has low compatability.

Don't ever think about going ATI, even if there is a killer price drop.

That's how they reel shit in.

Go Nvidia, or you'll cry.

I have an X800GTO and get like 70 - 90FPS all the time, 1024x768 everything on high, no AA. You should be getting atleast the same as me, if not higher (your card is better).

Try newer drivers.

Go down to titan Quest, ATI blows Nvidia out of the water.

Eh, maybe I was a little hard on ATI, but my experience with ATI does reflect perfectly on my previous statement.

I use ATI Tray Tools with Omega Drivers.

The problem seemed to be outdated Omega drivers.  I got the latest from ATI and things seem better.
