OK i was just looking at stuff on newegg & I have a question that I imagine will probably get me flamed at least a tad bit but I have to ask anyway, sorry.
If I buy a motherboard that has 4, 184 pin slots I don't imagine I'd be able to put 240 pin sticks in there, right?
Also the (PC xxxx) thingy, can I put (PC 4000) RAM in if the motherboard specs say (PC 3200)?

These are probably two very dumb questions but I'm just curious i guess. After what everyone has been sayin I'm gonna see if i can't cancel my Alienware order when they open up today & take the DIY angle from newegg.com

btw, if these questions are as stupid as I think they probably are you have my sincere apology, seriously.....sorry

*Edit:* if I can't do either of those things can anybody reccomend a good mobo that takes 240 pin RAM at a high (PC xxxx)? Please.

Correct 240 pin is for DDR2, so it WILL NOT fit.(REPLY)

NO. PC4000+ is again for DDR2(REPLY)

.
good thing you asked

like the guy below said, respect the specs

Core 2 Duo E6600 outperforms FX62 and it's only 300 bucks...

Is Dual-Threading not that important?
*Edit:* meant "Hyper-Threading"

I can't offer any help other than saying without the help of others here I can't do anything to my pc either.  You need not apolagise to them though but you seem just as grateful as I am when I recieve any help.  It's one of the more positive things about these forums.

Dual core > Hyper-Threading.

I suggest you get a core 2 system. Btw about the ram... You can put higher ram modules on your mobo even though it won't support it... you need to overclock to get to those ram speeds. DDR2 and DDR ram are not compatible.

Thank you very much, seriously, everyone that offered advice. Now I just gotta hope Alienware can cancel my order because by the looks of it (like everybody said) I can get about 10x more computer for $300 less plus i need to learn how to do all that crazy BIOS stuff eventually anyway

Agreed considering I just spent an hour fixing the lighting on my other machine (Alienware).
Of course if you gotta go OEM, these guys will overclock your quad core to 3.47 and boost your dual 8800 gtx's up before they ship it to you.

Kmarion it's actually you that made me look into newegg. I saw you say 2 or 3 different times for 2 or 3 different reasons in 2 or 3 different places that you own 2 Alienware machines (because you wanted to give them a second chance) and you would never buy from them again.

Now I just have to hope they let me cancel my order today, even if they do it'll probably take longer to get my credit then it would have to wait for my original shipment, return it for defects & then wait for it again

Utter nightmares on the inside considering what they had to work with.
No worries though, all is good.

I was kidding with that last post.
I was messing around and priced a machine there for 7K..lol

I was reading an article at maximum PC and they said this was by far the fastest OEM they have ever tested.

There are other websites that do make custom rigs but for less.
I went to: cyberpowerinc.com to buy my current machine. It was slightly cheaper than a newegg build, I love holiday specials and rebates.

there is also ibuypower.com  its exactly the same as the previous mention site, but sometimes have different specials.

By the way, yes you can put PC4000 RAM in your motherboard, very good for over clocking. You won't see any speed difference unless you over clock your processor, though.
