I have a Pentium D and 2GB of RAM. Will either of these be a bottleneck to my system if I get an 8800GTS?

Also, does anyone know a good site or book that tells you how to install RAID?

My Specs:

Pentium D 805
2GB 667 RAM
DFI Infinity 975X Mobo
Audigy 2
X850XT PE PCI-E x16
DVD+/-RW and CD-RW combo
250GB Seagate 7200 RPM HDD
450W PSU Is this a problem with an 8800?

Thanks

I'd be amazed if the minimum PSU requirements for the 8800's isn't more than 450W. The 7600s supposedly need a minimum 450W.

The 450w PSU is definitely a problem with an 8800. You'll want ATLEAST 550w, I'd go for something like 650 or so.

No, it won't bottleneck anything....no such thing as a bottleneck.

Bottleneck's only occur when the FSB and the memory frequencies get too close together.  Example a Pentium D @ 800FSB and DDR2 @ 800MHZ can cause a bottleneck very quickly.  You are fine as long as the 2 frequencies dont get too close to each other. I would definately recommend and new P/S at least 550W should handle you for a while.  The 8800 requires a 4 pin power adapter to power it and will draw ALOT of juice from the P/S and you may start to notice your system shutting down and rebooting due to this issue.  One thing that will clue you into this fact is that your fans on your case and CPU will start to slow WAY down and that is the number 1 indicator that you are running out of power.

Thanks guys, karma for everyone!

Oh, and for the GTS it says a minimum of 400Watt PSU:

Yeah but you always wanna go above the minumum, if you have case fans theyre drawing power too, i have a 650 psu in my pc and its awesome for the stuff it has to give the juice to.

Its better to get the psu and be sure that it will work

did you overclock your 805?  just wondering cuz i hear that is a monster overclocker.  i just bought a 600watt psu for my 7900gt and it should be fine when i upgrade to dx10 at a later time.

Another Question:

Can i say, buy a 10,000 RPM HDD for my games and not configure it in RAID with my 250GB HDD? Would this make any difference?

I run an 8800 GTS on a really crappy 550W PSU (getting a new one soon - once I get round to it). I also have more than half a dozen hard drives and a couple of optical drives as well as a multitude of USB devices plugged in. I have no problems with it. It doesn't seem to draw that much power.

450W is probably fine for an 8800 GTS. It depends how much other crap you've got in your system as well.

Yep - bottleneck. In this case it'll be the processor. Get an Intel E6600 as well as a bigger PSU (550W recommended)
