The secret is to have about 5 hands, 4 to put it in and one to hold a flashlight, but seeing how we only have 2 we have to improvise.
Mine took about 2 hours to install and it was not fun at all. You just have to keep trying, get one in and move it around to get another and another and the last one.

putting in the heatsink always scares the shit out of me. chances are its just tight. do it corner to corner, should make it a little easier. you will have to force it quite a bit probably. make sure you turn the pins as soon as they are in place.
I wish I had this video still, but it was of a guy trying to put on a c2d heatsink, and he got ridiculously frustrated & took a hammer to the motherboard.

I also had such a nice experience with my AC Freezer 7 Pro. Thought everything was fine until I noticed that one leg hadn't snapped yet... I don't know what it is, but it seems, intel gave out wrong specifications for those distances between the holes.
Well, and on the 25th, I'm going to remove the Heatsink, bend my northbridge cooler so that my heatsink doesn't have to push against it and I'll replace the cooling pad by thermal paste. Hell, I hope I won't put too much of it on to my little P4 :-/
heatsinks are always a bitch to install. usually i get my mum to hold to heatsink to the mobo, so that i can tighten the screws (i never had push-pin HSFs). getting help is probably your best bet

do it diagonally and you wont have any trouble, mine took literally 2 mins, 1:30 of which was reading the instructions
You have to force the wanker in but it will go - i installed mine on a flat desk BEFORE i mounted the mobo in the case - that gives it more support
Less likely to crack/damage the mobo that way
