today i built my first ocmpouter for my friend

yeah so i connected everything together in the right place (pretty sure) and i cant get the thing to turn on....

its a stock 450 w psu built inot the case

Start from basics my friend. Unplug all of the drives, just leave yourself with the mobo with the CPU, HSF, RAM (only 1 stick if you have 2) and video card in and then try turning it on. If all of those parts are okay you should get the POST and be able to go to BIOS.

Before all of the above, check to see the PSU doesn't have an on/off switch.

when i turn it on without plugging it onto the monitor or keyboard shouldnt the supply turn on?

Yes, the supply should turn on. Check the back of the PSU for a switch.

#1) Make sure the switch on the back is turned on.
#2) Make sure it's plugged in at the power point and that the switch there is turned on, too.

Sounds like your PSU is shagged then mate. Time to RMA the case.

Just a thought, before you do, check the power lead you're using. Does it have a fuse, if so, try changing it. If that dosn't work, try changing the lead.

As an aside, I'm no expert but isn't a 450W PSU a little underpowered for running 2 7900s in SLI?

thats how i interpreted it...maybe he meant the gx2, but that's 1gb memory...

i would suggest 2 things.

1: return the case for a REFUND ( if possible), and get a case and a power supply seperate. it is what makes your computer work (as you found out). don't skimp on it.

Try the power cable first, and then if that doesn't work RMA the case.

get a rosewill 600watt. i just bought one and it fired right the frak up. mirror black finish, 120mm fan, blue led, and modular cable support! what more can you ask for. oh yeah, it was only $80 bucks from newegg. i just hate waiting the 3 days shipping with newegg. tiger direct gets to me in less than 24hrs (i live in wisconsing and they ship from illinois). tiger direct doesn't have a psu selection like newegg though. definately get a case and psu seperate if your building a gaming rig.
