imagine what would happen if you shot your officer in the foot with a pistol in real life lol

- Will they add more Officer ranks?????????????
Don't mean to flame, but in the US military NCOs (i.e. Sergeant Major) and Warrant officers are different ranks. WOs are higher, addressed as Mr. and receive higher pay. (not absolutely positive on the address protocol)...small detail, but I'd like the money if I was a WO.

Warrant Officers are addressed Ma'am or Sir. They are non-commissioned but are still adressed as tho they are an officer.RAIMIUS wrote:

Actually, if you join as a private, you cant become an officer. Sergeant major (or warrant officer) is the highrst rank you can achieve.eightFX wrote:

Yan, that is a yes and no statement.
For the most part if you enlist in the military as a private the odds of you becoming an officer is shit to none. However, there have been instances in the past when some corporals and sarges have been reccommended for OCS, and did a stint in the military as an officer.
For an example of this look up Robert L. Howard. He started off as a private and retired in ~1992 at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Granted he was one hell of a soldier, but it is possible.

Nope, a Sergeant Major is not a Warrant Officer amigo. At least not in the armed forces of the United Statesjhoo8116 wrote:
A Sergeant Major is a special class of enlistees... they're known as Warrant Officers. They are usually respected; if you are a Sergeant Major, you'd been around for a while.Hidden&Aiming wrote:

Better than ending up like a WoW-Junkie!
Aren't you working for the police if you are an officer?
In most countries, if you are a sergeant and above, you'd be classified as a Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO). The Sergeant Major class is the most senior of the NCOs. An NCO is one that can carry out the order of an Commissioned Officer.
Actually, and this is in reference to the armed forces of the United States, all commisioned officers are political appointments so they are holding political office. The lower ranks (company grade and field grade) in the officer corps are given their commissions and are managed by the respective service but once they reach the rank of Colonel (Captain in the Navy) they then are considered for promotion by the Congress of the United States. The President nominates officers for promotion to the flag ranks (general officer) and then the congress gives consent.Coolbeano wrote:
Also I think that the Officer term came about in the ranks of the Military as once you reach that stage you do less actual field work as office work, or so to speak. You're not just a soldier in battle anymore, you have power over people and have responsibilities.
The office the flag officers hold are also appointed by the President and then approved by the Senate. You cannot be a Major or Unified Command Commander without Senate approval for instance. Retirements are also mamaged by the Congress. A General (4 stars) may retire in his current grade if he serves honorably or, and this happened in the Air Force Judge Advocate General's office last year, a Major General (2 stars) was forced to retire as a Colonel because of inappropriate conduct.
There has never been a 5 star Marine. There have been several 5 star Admirals and Generals. They are known as Fleet Admiral and General of the Army, respectively. The Air Force has had one 5 star general, Hap Arnold, and he was known as the General of the Air Force.dobbs wrote:
EA uses USMC ranks, it would only go to a 4 star general since the USMC cant ever have a 5 star and it is called the "Commadant of the Marine Corps" or (chief of staff for the Marine Corps)
5 star ranks are rare and have been only used during World War II. Once promoted to the 5 star rank you do not retire and remain on active duty until you die. The last 5 star was Omar Bradley.
By law, the only General Officer Rank that takes prececence over the 5 star rank is George Washington's rank. He is known as the "General of the Armies of the United States".
Many enlisteds can compete for entry into the officer corps. Yan, I work with a Captain that was an Technical Sergeant before he got his commission.Yan wrote:

Not many high rank officers fight in the acutal Battlefield.
It would be point less to put a four star general rank because they dont fight they just command.

And you equate real life to a game where you can be healed by a bag you walk across? These dudes need a carrot to play harder and that carrot is bling. Bling badges, bling ribbons, bling promotions.REDTEAM wrote:

There are less than 10 2Lts right now, soon there'll be 20, then 30, then 100, etc. The next patch needs to offer some meaningful incentives to still play or these guys will move to the newest game out there. The Golden Zipline badge is meaningless but maybe further range on weapons, better visual accuity, or stronger health might be good adds to seniority.
Omar Bradley, by the way, was on Omaha Beach on June 6th 1944. You may not know what that means yet son but you can Google it.
5 star is its own special 1 spot rank. Their is only 1 5 star a time. And to the guy that Sergeant Major was a warrant officer your wrong. Sergeant Major is an E-9, not a W-1, w-2, etc.
E = Enlisted
E = Enlisted
Well sort of. When we refur to warrent officers, we say: "Mrs. Lastname wants you too.." and when speaking to them directly its Yes Ma'am, or Yes sir. The first warrent officer (at least in the army) is not given a commision, they serve under a warrent from the president. When they reach cheif warrent (2nd), then they serve under a comission from the president, thus carrying some of his authority.mcminty wrote:

Warrent Officers in BF2 could also work, giving the player the option to go either path provided they have enough time in one specialty area (kit), as thats what Warrent Officers do, their experts in their field, examples of Warrent Officers are pilots for instance but can be pretty much anything.
Oh, and its not hard to switch to an Officer as an NCO or Private. Its actually easier, because they generally like to send you to OCS as soon as possible, and not when you're like a SFC or something. I was asked if I wanted to go awhile back, but I'd rather stay in the enlisted branch.

Personally that ranking system is backed by the rewards you gain... so what the hell would wanting higher ranks mean if I don't get an unlock for it? The game's fine as it is unless some BIG, MAJOR patch that practically makes it a new game comes out.
