Well, I can get a new monitor for Christmas if I want, and I've found two on sale.

I know a fair bit about computers, but I know nothing about monitors so I need your guys' advice/info.

Option 1

I can get the first one for $200 and the second one for $250 with a Christmas Eve sale (keep in mind these prices are in Cdn dollars)

Do you think I should get the first one, or should I spend the extra 50 bucks and get the other one for some reason....?

Get the second one.

It's quite obvious that in a capitalistic society, paying more money gets you a far superior product, not to mention gives you more pull in society. And makes you cool. And popular.

1st if you want widescreen, but the second one has better response time and better contrast

I have a Samsung 930BF and 931BF is just an upgrade, I think. The 930BF has been the best monitor I've ever had. Go for it!

i bought a widescreen 19" aswell and at the time there was a normal 19" for cheaper but i wanted the widescreen at the time, if i was you id get the widescreen but the second one has better specs

Number 2, it's much better and widescreen is pretty pointless.

Widescreen is far from pointless. More and more games support WS and with Vista coming, the push for widescreen support will gain momentum.

Also if you watch DVDs fairly often on your PC you'd enjoy a WS monitor.

I'd get the widescreen one. I use a widescreen at the moment and I couldn't go back.

How about this or this.

Both are the same price range, but they're 20"(Samsung, since you seem keen on them) and 22"(Niko - haven't heard of them but it looks pretty nice) respectively.
