I have never used drugs/smoked or even had a sip of alcohol whilst nearly all my friends have. They haven't rejected me being "Un-trendy" for not using them like they do. I'm not any less "Cool" in there eyes. They have tried to get me to do it but i say no and tell them to back off and they do.
I guess I may just have a good set of reliable friends that don't try to pressure me to do it and even when they do, they only have a little and don't go over the top like some.

I wonder if it was legalized if Pot use would maybe go down... For kids under 18, Id say alot of it is rebellion. Maybe Im wrong. but its nature and well documented that kids have a desire to veer off from parents and thier rules, so, like cigarettes, they use it for the rebellious aspect of it. Sure, the high aint bad either though!

Taking drugs because they're trendy is stupid. Taking hard drugs on a regular basis is stupid. Soft drugs like alcohol and cannabis (yes alcohol does count - and is probably the most taken to be trendy, binge drinking for example) do pose health risks but these should be deemed relatively insignificant. If you want to take drugs, then fine - but don't take too many, don't take them too often and don't do it because of peer pressure.
Remember Kids, drugs are cool.
If you wanna have some fun go kill off a half a gallon of crown between you and 5 other people and smoke a joint. Now thats fun. You have no clue whats going on.

I agree with this totaly, pot sends me to sleep and I miss all the funny things happening around me. I Like getting tipsy, but I see no fun in excess where I end up in a puddle of my own sick. One things i especially object to people saying the weed makes you mentally slow i smoked weed though all my exams when i was at secondary school and was stoned in music exam i got an A i got As in mocks sober so therefore i didn't lose any knowledge or couldn't not remember what i needed too. I did well Overall too, not that those exam are hard but my mind was not effected when i was sober to a degree that would effect my exams.
An for example no one says anything about the proven loss of brain cells in relation to alcoholism or prelonged alcohol use ( a life time ) and I'm not bashing alcohol I'm just saying its all relative you cant have ago at a casual weed smoker if your a casual drinker in my book. So I'm glad weed smoking is on rise it shows its losing its social stigma.
Lockerfisher although you're allowed to disagree with weed smoking, you have never tried it i assume and therefore cannot really comment on whether you can work while smoking weed out of work hours sure if this kid is bad in other aspects that might have nothing to do with him smoking weed but don't just generalise. I wouldn't say weed smokers are some how worse at holding down a job than someone who elects not to smoke weed because i know people in mission critical job like nurses and doctors that smoke weed to unwind so i think you're listening to a popular misconception. If he is stoned on the job on the other hand but equally if you take any drug while working then you should be fired but don't differentiate between drugs.
I smoke weed because i enjoy it as much as people like there favourite drink its no different.

Actually both alcohol and tobbacco have been shown in studies to be worse for your health than the majority of illegal drugs. Nicotine is the most addicitive recreational drug in existence (much more addictive than Heroin for example, which is closer to alcohol for addictivity), alcohol is pretty much the most physically damaging drug as well. Recent proposed changes to the UK's drug classification system classifed drugs by their potential to do harm to the user, this scheme has not taken off, partially due to the fact that alcohol topped the list (it was only included for a sense of completeness, there was no question of banning alcohol). Alcohol does have the important distinction that in small quantities it is actually good for you, but more research into the medicinal qualities of weed could easily prove that it's beneficial qualities outweigh those of alcohol. The major negative effect of weed is that it makes you lazy, which is not a problem if you have any sort of motivation.
