What do I need to get to take my laptop from 2.39GHz of speed to at least 3GHz?

Or will I need a new pc?

puting it to 3.0ghz wouldn't make any noticeable difference. if you are going to overclock you need adequate cooling and as you have a laptop you cant exactly stick a 120mm fan on your cpu.

It sounds like you don't have a clue about what you're doing, so you need a new pc.

the cpu, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking have a look here. this is what you have to do to make ure cpu run faster and other parts of your pc, but be aware you cans eriously damage you pc if you dont do it right.

I seriously can't recommend overclocking a laptop.  They simply lack the thermal design to be overclocked like that.  Also, most laptops lack the BIOS features to change the CPU clock speed.  There were some software solutions, like SoftFSB, but I haven't heard of it being updated, and was really hit & miss, especially with laptops, because it didn't recognize the clock generator on the mobo.

DOn't worry guys, I turned the graphics on the game i was trying to play (Rainbow Six Vegas) down to the bare minimum (640 x 400 graphins = ) and it still looks beautiful, and I can play without it kicking around like a Rodeo Horse.

My friend said some guy called tech support once and said his laptop was too hot so he drilled holes in the bottom of it and it wouldn't turn on anymore now.

Get a faster laptop or get a pc.
