CRT is a piece of shit, so is 15.6 inches of CRT.  I need a very cheap LCD.  Has to be at least 16 inches and very preferably have a DVI port.

Sorry, I lied. It was a terrible joke in the first place and upon further inspection it doesn't have DVI anyways. My bad. Plus one because I'm an asshole.

lol, no worries.  I don't suppose you would have a clue as to where I could actually get one?

My first thought is Newegg and second is local ads for best buy or some place like that. (they do have those in MD right...?)

Yeah (somehow) they do actually have Best Buys here.  The only ads we get for Best Buy are in the Washington Post but I take it that's what you meant anyway.  Newegg doesn't have shit when it comes to cheap LCDs.

It's so unfair.  Why the fuck can't they make a decent one for under 100$?

You can find a good used 21" CRT for $80. Check around the line of the P1120/30's, then see if laser (insert: optoelectronic) screens are all they're hyped up to be later.

Too expensive for its size.

because they aren't cheap to manufacture and there is an added cost liability when dealing with LCD.

Anything more than 100$ for CRT is sort of not a good deal, lol.

I want an LCD.  I'm tired of CRT.  I just don't have the desk space either.

If you want a gaming LCD for under $100, you're going to have to get one from a friend going to a Dell 24" or some other such who has no use for a spare. Might have luck from some sort of derelict PC shop, too. Otherwise, you'll never get something new that has any decent brightness, contrast or response time.

Don't bash the CRT either. They're bright, fast, and don't fudge up if you haul off and punch them off their stands.

Put simply:

When do you predict that decent ones will start to drop under 100$?

years.  look for something used.  but even then, $100 wont get you much, unless it's really old and therefor shitty.

I agree: I bought a 21" CRT recently and I'm glad I did. It has better color quality, faster response times, and like a million times better resolution (it can go to 2048x1536), absolutely impossible for an LCD to even get close to. Plus it was $80, which means 2 of them (for a total of 42" ) go for about as much as a 17-19" LCD.

The only problem would be if you have very limited desk space. It seems like the length of these CRTs increases quadratically with the screen size.

Albeit i'm one of the few people on these forums that still uses a CRT monitor, and a 15.6 inch one at that.  I've never played BF2 on anything bigger than this either.

Dude, I told you not to bash the CRT. I still use them (from arm's length, of course). You should go look at the large ones with the flat screens (not chassis, just a flat, glass surface). Excellent contrast range, everything is sharp, and there's no lag.

I've even been paid to haul them off before by people who just want LCD-flat-screen-no-argument-end-of-deal.

Doesn't the length increase with the size of the screen like parth said?  I don't have a whole lot of room even with the 15.6 monitor.

It'll be a pant load easier to find a decent monitor in CRT on your $100 budget.  that's the reality of the market.
