They're annoying more than annoying. The good snipers who can headshot sprinting targets are pains in the asses, but since most snipers suck ass they're just annoying. The worst are the claymore spammers though. I can take all those bullets hitting right next to me, but those fucking mini-nukes that are indestructible piss me off to no end. I wish every claymore spammer was hardware banned.

I have a love hate relationship with snipers. It is fun to be one and I like to play aggresively and attack and cap flags, i also use claymores for defense!
But when i play against an entire team of snipers and i cap flags its like getting attacked by a swarm of mosquitos!
They will lose but man its annoying! And i let them know it.
nothing is worse than claymore whores though, just randomly dropin claymores in high traffic areas to get kills or their explosive badge
I love sniping from long distances and i always laugh @ claymore sniping. First one takes skill, second one takes just-a-little-brain and so you don't put claymore up the wall or on an empty corridor so enemy can see it from 1 mile.
Of course it requires no skill and it's commonly used by almost all players who get their hands on the sniper kit (it's fun-admit it). I don't use it much, except when defending flags or myself. I rather practice long-range headshots:). But it's still fun to see a man running like hell, when sniper with claymore appears in front of him, drops the claymore, gets killed by a first man, first man goes prone and starts slowly crawling away and then boom! (havok does the trick)

you can stereotype snipers if you wish, and im aware that 95% i would say of snipers are crap. Its the ones that are good that you should whatch out for.
i would be more than happy to have claymores removed. but it was the whinners that gave snipers a bad name. claymore spammers are probably the people that use the M203 back in 1.12 or c4 chucked for cheap kills, now with them nerfed they found claymores

claymores are NOT skill. snipers are fine. claymores are not.
Sniper class is the most selfish kit in BF2. I tend to notice most guys that use the sniper kit are guys gaymoring on Karkand or players that just are not good upclose ground pounding. I know this is generalizing however I have seen "some" very good players that use sniper kits but they do little to defend or cap flags. Ultimately I view the sniper kit for below average players that sit in a bush doing little for the team. Oh almost forgot. Alot of jet/helo whores use the sniper class m95 so they can TK to get their jet/helo.
The thing I don't understand, is why you guys say that the sniper in your team doesn't cap flags. I don't think in real life you would see any snipers running around in close combat. In every film I've seen, if there is a sniper you always see him on another building to his target, or in the trees with foliage around for cover. So in BF2, snipers are using the same tactics as real snipers would in real situations, (with the exceptions of the noobs you find on BF2) but other than that, I think sniper is the best kit. I have to say, I don't like the claymore spammers, but when I play, I use the L96A1 and when I see an idiot that decides to randomly stop in the middle of nowhere he's mine. I play on Road To Jalalabad, and with the L96A1 I'm unstoppable.
its not snipers that piss me off, its claymores, props to good snipers that headshot out of no where. the bad ones are annoying as little fucking gnats.

If you have a k/d ratio with a sniper rifle below 3, then you really shouldn't consider yourself a good sniper
Sniper is a great class to play, but unfortunatly a lot of players, ie claywhores/gaymore spammers etc, give the kit a bad rep. I think it is unfair to suggest that people play sniper purely because they suck at full on infantry combat, I'm sure many snipers out there, myself included are fairly capable of CQB, but a sniper is at his most effective if you cant see him while he's shooting at you, hence why many snipers prefer to stay back from the main combat, and not cap flags
Just because snipers don't always cap flags, doesn't mean they are'nt contributing to the round. A Sniper who stays well hidden, and racks up a score of 17 or so, to no deaths, is not costing your team a single ticket, but denys the opposition 17 or so more spawns. There has also been many times, as a sniper, where i have taken out enemy Spec Ops, laying c4 all over friendly armour, therefore not only am i a) killing the enemy, but b)saving one of our teams most valuable combat assets from destruction.
In brief, snipers, good ones, provide a valuble asset to whatever team they play on, but they are given a bad name by many, possibly the majority of snipers in-game.

Sorry I dont remember a time ever a sniper going 17-0 and helping my team in anyway caping flags or defending flags. Sure they can drop a guy or 2 pushing a flag but most likely that guy they dropped will be rez'd by a M in their squad. Aye, true, most snipers i see ingame, aren't as effective as they could be, but a clever sniper will designate and eliminate his targets, with priorities. If i see a squad rushing for a flag, i either go for the lead runner, as he is often a SL, and if not, i shoot straight for any meds they might have, then work my way through the rest of the squad. You don't need to physically cap the flag yourself to help your team take it do you?
All you have to do is watch over your buddys. Any good sniper will take out 3/4 guys
i don't mind snipers, except when your support and you spot a sniper far away so you crouch and take aim and wait for the cross hair to go down so you will get decent shots off at him (you don't move closer as this could give you away or mean you have to do a long detour around and out of his field of vision) he notices you and starts to aim at you, so you plug shots off in his direction hoping for the best whilst side stepping a little so they can't aim so well or maybe not if you feel confident or just forget to do so.
and still only one or two shots hit and probably do hardly any damage and he still gets the headshot square on your forehead with one shot.
I so hate that, it and similar things happen far too often.

I hate playing sniper, I hardly ever kill anyone. I appreciate them highly tho. As for claymore-whores, well let's just say that there is a special place in Hell for those bastards.
