On my old machine I just shut off the power supply, make sure there's no static and shit. Then screw off my fan, and unclip the heatsink. Once it's all out, I brush the dust off the fan, and blow air on the heatsink. *edit- Compressed air that is.*

Using a vacuum cleaner on the inside of a PC is a very poor idea. If the computer is dusty enough to warrant vacuuming then there is enough dust to build up a damaging static charge.

Use compressed air, that's much better.

please, stop using that. before i kill myself. if you EVER vacuum the innards of a PC, you're either ignorant, or an idiot. your case, i'd say ignorant. (please don't take this wrong, its not meant to offend)

you should never place suction inside of a PC, only blow, if that makes sense.

compressed air should be used inside of it. using a vacuum increases the chance of ripping off a small, important component from any number of places. compressed air, because its force is less than that of a vacuum, generally leaves those components alone.

edit: missed a double I...and bertster beat me to it! argh!

I do this:
  • Remove all the dust with a dry paintbrush
  • Use a can of compressed air to blow off all the settled dust
  • Wait like 10 minutes and again use the can of air to wipe any remaining dust

OFF COURSE WITH ALL POWER OFF AND THE WHOLE THINGS UNPLUGGED FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET.

Itś also good that you ground yourself from the PC by using any cord tied to your wrist. You want to take care of your PC not fucking anything because of static. Good luck with your cleaning .

aiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee!

I dont use it on the components.

Generally inside the PC itself its dust free, i tend to use the vancum on the intake casefan filters which are normally clogged.

I have a Zalman Fatility Copper heatsink and i use one of those microbrushes to suck up dust which has accumulated on the fins.

You think i'm crazy enough to use suction on my aw9d Max mobo and my x1900xt?!

What about taking the fan off and just blowing yourself into the heatsink and fan ?

Air won't pull all the dust off.

Use a baby tooth brush and brush off the dust.  Quick, easy, and will work like new.

Too bad you won't ground yourself unless the PSU cord is plugged in.
