1. What is the internet speed your ISP has told you you should be getting?

2. Have you ever had any better speed than you are getting now?

I use the Netgear DG834PN..... very, very, good router, easy to set up, easy to configure.

However ifor a gaming router, since you won't be using wireless... Just the DG834
misconfiguration

I'd watch those other machines, have you tried any analysis on your network, start scanning your ping HOPS and see how long it takes to get to a destination. Start unplugging the other machines from the network, are you sure the other machines are not sucking bandwidth, maybe a Trojan/malware/ad ware or even P2P/torrent uploads? I'd really check within my network first, I highly doubt a router would ever be a bottleneck for a normal ADSL/cable connection. A normal 10/100 switch is MUCH faster than your outbound broadband connection, so I wouldn't go replacing devices just yet.

1) Whats your current router
1(b)) Are you using wireless?
2) Have you tried running BF2 with the other PC's turned off
3)) Have you forwarded all the required ports to your computer- if port forwarding is set by IP, make sure you get a static IP, not randomly assisgned from the router (DHCP).

This definitely has something to do with port forwarding, also there is a setting called MTU in the router (Maximum Transmission Unit) this is used for the largest physical packet size, measured in bytes, that a network can transmit. Any messages larger than the MTU are divided into smaller packets before being sent. Normally a lot of issues can reside especially when playing BF2 that takes a decent chunk of bandwith. If you can find it on the ADVANCED tab, or even under general in your routers config page, make sure it's set to 1500. Get your manual to figure out how to port forward, you'll need to set the PC you game on as the designated host for the BF2 TCP/UDP ports.
