Pay your attention to the green circle that has apeared.

What is it? At first I thought it directs you to helipads or something, but it shows up even when you're not on a helipad.

And if it's been asked before, someone show me the topic. I personally couldn't be bothered to search... Plus I couldn't think what to search for.

Pretty sure it's the gunner's view, where he's looking.  I know you have no gunner, but....I don't know.

I have noticed that it appears when you stop, so I think too it's a hovering aid. You stop somewhere and it indicates how much you deviate from the spot you stopped first.

ok, i just looked it up. it is an indicator of position relative to a spot on the ground that it appears you want to land at or hover over. so if your hovering over a spot, and move forwards, the circle will move down on the hud, and vice versa. think of the circle being a spot on the ground, and the cross hairs being you in a view from above.

Maybe you should look at the picture one more time.

like joker 3327 said, its an hovering indicator.it shows how much in ballance you are.when its dead center the heli is level andis hovering perfectly.the longer it is to either sie (up,down, left right) the less level the hover is

its to let you know how close to the ground you are. The problem is, in the game of BF2 it doesnt always work properly, if at all...

Center is landed, as you go up it moves away from the center crosshair.

if that's so then why have I achieved a perfect balance (circle around crosshairs) at more than 100 feet high?

Well hes wrong...its a hover indicator...shows how steady you are, nothing to do with your distance from floor/helipad etc

Maybe its just for show?

Whatever it does Im sure it can't really be used to gain any real advantage on the battlefield.

I never cared to know what it is, I know its no the gunners view, because the little square moves back and forth as the gun does. (Plus it says "Gunners View" right on the damn thing)

Edit: 'Non-Edit' - I decided to actually LOOK at the pictures and use my superior Logical brain to figure out what it is...

To me this is what I gather. in the first picture I assume the chopper is going forward and in the 2nd on its drifting to the left because of the slight tilt. This Circle is probably an indicator of how far and where you must move the Chopper (Crosshair) to continue going in a straight path. All this is just instinct to everyone whos flown a chopper for like 2 - 10 hours but it may help someone trying to figure out why the choppers doin what its doing and how to correct yourself durring a queer decent and tilt.

I should go do some experimenting of my own and I will come back to this if I am bored.

It's the hover circle, joystick users have no use for it IMO, I never get it except for when I take off, even though I'm in a perfect hover.

Yes it is. It is a big help for starters, if they wanna stop the heli and hover. The little circle always goes to the opposite direction you are going horizontally. If you tilt the heli forward (going forward) then the little circle will go down from the crosshairs, if you tilt right (strafing right) the little circle will go to the left etc. In another words: if you wanna hover always move your mouse to the direction the little circle goes (if its going down then pull your mouse down , well only if u fly with mouse inverted i guess)

Well explain Jets having it then. Youll see it all the time when you take off off the carrier.
