I was looking at different types of computers to purchase, and it seems as though alienwares are pretty good, are there any other suggestions/opinions?
Hopefully it works when you get it because their customer support sucks... (And Alienware is horribly overpriced.)
If you're going to waste your money on an Alienware, you might as well get something that's at least somewhat worth the amount of money you'll spend. Look up Falcon Northwest.
alienware are not that bad..
though i would recommend looking all the parts up on newegg or something get the price... then as i think you don't want to build yourself... ring or email a local computer store in your area that does customs systems.. then say you would like a quote on this...... and say the cheapest quote i have is ####... (the price from newegg)(don't tell them its from newegg or whatever site) they will then think its is competition from another local store and try to get as close to that price as possible, and they will build it for you..
anyway good luck mate.

There are plenty other alternatives out there if you are dead set on an OEM.
(I obviously build now)

DELL owns them now, it sure isn't gonna get any better. Falcons are nice, but custom is alot more fun..and if you can buy local you will get alot better service.
If you want to throw away a few thousand dollars...I'll take it.
ok lets start with them shipping my machine with the worng bios.(Missed that in their 12 point inspection)blademaster wrote:

Sound card had wrong drivers.
Lights on the case went out.
From day one I was getting random BSOD.
I ended up reformatting on my own and not using their "Respawn CD" and realized that the BSOD was coming from their original configuration "wasted 50 bucks on respawn".
The recovery disk they sent me had ATI drivers on it when I had a Nvidia card.
The support people are complete morons who generally just read directly out of a book to diagnose problems. I had one guy ask me" How did you get so good with computers"..lol I ended telling him basically what the problem was after being on the phone for over an hour.
You know with any major company there are going to be unhappy customers but for the money it should not be that bad.
In order to rate at http://resellerratings.com you have to be a customer.
Six-Month Rating: 5.35 / 10
Now don't you think thats crazy for the price?

with modern hardware, it's no longer necessary to pay someone else to build your pooter. as far as Dellienware, they lost it 4 years ago. If you're gunna waste your money, waste it on a Falcon Northwest.
If it has anything to do with computers, always listen to Kmarion.
I just bought an Aurora 7500 maybe 3 weeks ago & after like the 2nd day I started wishing I would have built it myself. If you think you can then just put one together yourself, you'll save alot of money. Their tech support is basically worthless too, I heard they used to have real tech support but let them go in favor of the rentable kind (the ones that don't actually know anything, just read out of a book). You can't get into their forums without buying something from them because once you do you see that 50% of the posts are people posting problems or asking why nobody is responding to their emails.
You buy pre-built so you don't have to worry about anything, just plug & play, right? From what I've heard it's not always that easy with Alienware. I had to modify my case the first day & eventually add a water cooling system because they either didn't build it right or just ignored the fact that my components will give me a combined heat of like a million degrees
I like the system itself but there isn't anything that I couldn't have built myself for much cheaper.

If you really want an Alienware-type pre-built system, take a look at Falcon NW instead. Equally overpriced, but with better support.

Read this thread "Alienware Admit Trying to Fiddle Reviews"
Man I wish I would have seen that before I bought mine. I think they were a little rough on the performance because mine runs great (although hot & not 100% stable all the time ) but that's really shitty.Dieselboy wrote:

It's not worth the money & I wish I would have listened to everyone when I asked about buying mine. If I could do it again I'd definitely build. Once you open a computer up & poke around you see it's really not that hard. Not to bash the tech guys at all (the ones here I mean) because they have an incredible understanding of how things work but actually putting things together is kinda like legos, every component can really only go into one place.
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT. Buy an Alienware less than £3000. It is a waste otherwise. You can get one like I did but it will cost more than other computers that are infact more powerful. I sent mine back and got a dell instead which is actually incredibly powerful for a laptop.
2.0ghz duo 2 core
2g RAM
Nvidea GO 7900 GS
loads of other good stuff.

The majority of Dell owners are happy with there machines, there not exactly enthusaist machines (though the XPS are pretty good) so if your looking for the best then look else where. I share my Dell with my family, and the other 3 are more than happy with it, just me that wanted the new rig. With OEM's ofcourse you will have a problem machine, or plainly no luck, but two of my friends have alienwares and are MORE than pleased with there purchases. However, it isnt the chepest option, my new £1700 machine would have clost over £3000 if I went for alienwares ALX series, or a high spec 7500....... For best price/performance buy the parts and build it urself, or if u cant, pay someone to do it, and you should be good to goReGmAn78 wrote:

If you are interested in buying pre-built, check out hardocp. They buy and score computers based on ordering/website, tech support, packaging, phone wait times, cross-shipping/RMA along with the performance of the computer itself. It's basically about as in-depth as it can get. They don't limit themselves to Falcon's or Alienwares or any of the other high-end manufacturers, they've also done computers they've bought at best buy.
Their newest article can be found here: http://consumer.hardocp.com/article.htm … 9uc3VtZXI=

Ya dude fuck Alienware, I just found either pubes or facial hair stuck in the thermal grease for my VGA while I was trying to figure out how to get my cooling block to fit better. That's just not right. I mean a good chunk of them too, like someone did it on purpose.
Alienware computers are like iPods, or designer jeans - you're not necessarily buying the product, but rather the brand name.
You know all of those places that sell single-core celerons/80GB HDD/512mb RAM for $1500 (for you Aussies: think arrow computers)?
Alienware is that for the rich.

True. However their realy high end computers do kick ass for the money you pay. When getting a kick ass computer its always good to have some kind of support service.Sup3r_Dr4gon wrote:

falcon nw makes the best pre-built computers in my book, but they also cost an ass load of money!! my next pc will be one that i will build, i'm not that computer literate, but it will be a learning process
I like the Vodoo's, dam I want that case made of GOLD! $15,000 fully speced muahahahaha!hate&discontent wrote:
