I looked, but ahhh its kinda hard, especially because your looking at a premium to get a gaming laptop over a similar desktop, and £500 desktops dont generally run games on high.  In that price range when I checked I saw a lot of names I've either never heard of or know to be of trouble.

Theres a selection with plenty in price range, but really its pushing it to get a good gaming laptop for that price, especially in the UK   May wanna look abroad and import it, still the import charge I suspect will deminish the savings......

Wouldnt go that far, I have a HP pavilian which cost about a £1000 exactly, and it can handle 2142 on medium-high AA off, with about 50fps constant.  Still that is a grand........  Save more?

Yeah but if we are honest... BF 2142 on medium isnt great is it. It aint gunna run the games that will be coming out this year well at all.

Just cos we have a house and a flat.

Desktop stays at house and laptop is used for work and comes with us to the flat.

So its for business use and to keep me amused when away from our main home

(I dont watch tv...)

Here's a link to the stats page @ Cnet, they gave it 8 out of 10 which is pretty good, I'll look around for a price but I'm pretty sure it's under $1,000 if you c an find one & don't mind a Pentium M

It's a bit dated but should do alright.

I personally would not recommend an Acer.  A friend of mine has one, and in the last 6 months he had to send it in to get a new hard drive.  Acer actually sent him a hard drive, and told him to install the OS himself, this is an issue since Acer did not give him a reinstall CD when he got the laptop.  So he called support, told them that his laptops hard drive failed and he needed to install the OS back on it.  They told him to use his non-working laptop to go to Acer's FTP site to get an ISO file.  My friend repeated that he can not get online, and the tech support rep keep telling to go to the FTP site.  This was also after my friend waited on the phone for over an hour just to talk to a rep. 

The second time, he had to prove he had a warranty on the computer, even though he had the hard drive replaced less then 6 months earlier.  The tech stated that he saw that hard drive was replaced in June, (this call was in Dec.).  My friend explained that yes, he called about the issue in June, but they told him to ship the laptop to them in August to replace the hard drive. 

He also talked about how horrible their hold time were, he stated that on average he waited on the phone for over an hour to speak to someone.  He also told me that the quickest he spoke to someone was after being on hold for over 40 min.  and the longest was somewhere close to 90 min.

PS I cleared the history so no luck there...

This is driving me mad!
