unless I clear cmos. If I restart the machine shuts down and reboots but the monitor doesn't get picture. If I shut the computer down and turn it on again the monitor will not get picture. The only way I have found around this is by clearing the cmos. It's not exactly feesible to clear the cmos every time I want to turn on my computer. Any ideas how to fix it?

try pulling out the power plug from back of comp, then start comp without plug in (  fans should spin for a sec or 2) , then replug in power cord and turn on. See if this works.

Do you have anything overclocked on your board?  If so reset that to default settings.  What happens if you clear the CMOS, then boot, and as soon as you get to your desktop, reboot?  Do not go into your bios or anything when you do this.

Considering it's probobly the CMOS battery and the fact that all that does is drain the power supply of all remaining power, that will hurt more then help.

Replace the CMOS battery, and use whatever computer you're using now to find a upgraded BIOS version and update yours if it's not up to date.

Already tried reformatting, no difference.

Nothing is overclocked. The boot failure occurs even if I try restarting after logging in after having just cleared the cmos.

Thanks for the advice so far, I will try the battery in a little bit.

Formatting has NOTHING to do with the CMOS/BIOS, that information is stored VIA FLASH RAM on the motherboard.

1.) I'd replace the CMOS battery.
2.) Sounds as if; the settings are being reset to factory, try going into BIOS and disabling any ONBOARD VGA. If you have a card installed, you'll have to tell BIOS you don't wanna use the onboard (shared) card.

I tried a new battery, but the same thing happens. I went into BIOS, but the only thing I see that even has "VGA" in it is in "PnP/PCI Configurations: PCI/VGA Palette Snoop" and it was already disabled.

Its a faulty motherboard then the same happened to my CMOS when I got my PC I hat to reset it and then it worked. If you have reset it and even changed its battery the mobo is most possibly stuffed. Even with my 7 year old PC ive never had to replace the CMOS battery.

Tried to update BIOS but I can't flash BIOS because my keyboard doesn't work in dos for some reason. It works in BIOS and all the post window screens fine though...

The only windows flash tool I found wasn't compatible with my version of M/B.

That is a windows tool. I tried it, updated BIOS, and it said it had to restart to take effect...and it restarted fine! So then I shut down the computer and boot it back up to make sure it was working and...nope. Just like before. Everything turns on but the monitor is not getting picture. The post code on the motherboard stops at 9.0. at this point and stays there. The description for this code in the manual is "Complete uguru initial process. AWARD BIOS take over booting job." This is the last step in the boot sequence according to the post code list. For some reason it can't get beyond this point unless I shut everything off and clear the cmos...

hmm, that is weird but u are not alone. some others have same kind of problem with that mobo. maybe it somehow corrupts the bios after one boot up and when u clear bios it uses the backup to rewrite the bios (and same thing happens again, lol). Never seen that one before but it is possible. btw do u have antec psu? I hope u don't

k i guess u got bad mobo and I recommed u to RMA it or buy a different mobo like that asus. That asus should be ok cuz u don't have antec psu like I have (Antec PSU + Asus A8Nxx-SLI=ZOMG). Other choice is DFI but it has active cooling

sounds funny but make sure your keyboard and mouse plugins are not reversed.
