i would like to know
- what the pay will be like. (no min wage for people still in compulsory schooling)

Retail.

Yeah, it sucks, and the pay isn't the best, but it does give you decent experience with working with people.

...that, and it's what pretty much everyone your age gets into.

Supermarkets and high street retail, bigger shops will be beginning to recruit now for Easter. Don't wait for them to advertise, go in and ask for an application form.

I agree with ThomasMorgan. I used to work in Tesco and Homebase stacking shelves. I found it quite fun, as there were some great people there and for some strange reason I actually did like stacking shelves.

I also used to work in a go-cart track which used to be awesome as I could have a go for free!

I'll be looking at this late next year, too. From what I hear, minimum wage for 16-17 (or is it 18?) aged employees is about £3.25! You won't be getting much but...just try to get yourself on a ladder where you can get a few promotions before leaving, earn some respect (and give a lot out!) so that you get a good recommendation from the employer. The recommendation from the first job can go a long way...

Try not to become a McMinimum wage slave at Mcdonalds. Before I joined the Army, I worked in a hotel, I was full time, but at weekends a lot of schoolies worked in the restaraunt for quite reasonable money. Don't need experience, but expect to start right at the bottom, and put a lot of effort in.

Quite a lot of jobs usually up for grabs in tesco or asda.

They pay reasonably well, also you get some discounts of certain foods and items

Umm few jobs:
Stacking shelvs
Returning trolleys
helping customers
working at the checkout

Or Sainsbury's/Waitrose depending on where you live.  Most the people that come to the end of school go on to one of those or a little Café kinda thing or something along those lines..

lol so true.

When i was 16 i worked in a diner/restaurant doing the washing up, it wasnt pretty but paid ok, and i met some awesome people, had some great partys, and still  see several of them 10 years later!.  Expect to start at the bottom, but remember ALWAYS PUT IN THE EFFORT, if u dont like a job, quit and get another.  Don't fuck them about, or no refererence.

Hes right, ive just finished at Comet.  Im 16 also. Retail itself is so shit to do for the rest of your life in my opinion.

But i gained alot of experience, i used to be a shy fucker, now i'll talk to anybody.

Also its good on your CV

Also don't just take the job that has best money.. take convenience.

such as, if you have a newsagent close to you, take a job in there.
or a pub on your street.. mechanics.. things like that:)

Especially seeing as you won't be able to drive till your 18 now.

I'd have you working for me, I'm a good boss, and talk bf2 all day with staff.  Pay would be shit but I'd be a very interesting job and a laugh too, but you live too far away and Ive found the more we employ the more shit we get so sorry dude.

Do as mentioned above or if not, Communications Direct (might be Cardiff only) but you start there on £5+ an hour selling mobiles over the phone.

Try and get yourself doing something boring like stacking shelves, or even better post office. It might be robotic work but there is a very good ladder to climb.

Wait for the summer and go and pick fruit with the Polish.

Dancing for businessmen in Soho bars pays well, especially for a 16 year old.
