I installed my new processor & started up the computer fine, then I downloaded the drivers & rebooted when they finished installing like it asked. Now everytime I start up my computer I get this error:

Warning! Previous system POST failed - reverting to safe settings
Please adjust BIOS settings in SETUP and reboot.

Wtf did I do wrong? Please tell me I didn't break something

Btw the computer will start fine if I press F1 to continue. It operates normally too but obviously something isn't right...

Try reverting to an older BIOS-version that supports you new processor (if possible).

I say clear the CMOS.

How do you clear the CMOS? If it's just "Use Defaults" then I tried that.

Now it's saying: Floppy disc(s) fail (40)
on top of what it originally said

*Edit:* btw I don't have a floppy disc drive.

It's a Foxconn 590 SLI or something like that. I don't have the actual number on this computer, do you need it?
Thank you very much for helping too.

*Edit:* I don't know what a jumper is but I can get into my BIOS to change things if it has anything to do with that.

dont you just pop out the CMOS battery for a minute to clear CMOS?

About the floppy thing, when you reset to defaults in the bios, it made it so the boot priority is floppy first...it cant detect the floppy drove, thus it spits back an error at you

come on dude, lol, isn't it easier to just do it with jumper. no need to remove the battery, lol. unless u really really want to do it

..............i think i just killed $3,500.
I checked all the wiring first to make sure nothing was disconnected before I tried the jumper thing, then after I made sure the wires were connected right I plugged the power cord in to make sure everything was running, then I pushed the power button & guess what happened? Absolutely nothing.....so I tried a different outlet, still nothing. So I even tried a different power cord, still nothing. I don't know what happened, there was no zap & I'm grounded anyway (i went & bought one of those silly wrist straps before I installed my processor today).

Hopefully I just unplugged something by accident or knocked it loose.

*Edit:* nevermind I just knocked a power cord loose, dude I almost pissed myself that scared me. Killing a brand new computer with stupidity is /wrist worth for sure

Just did the jumper thing, gonna set it back up in a sec, let ya know how it goes.

Thanks so much for the help.

I guess I did something wrong because it still won't work. Now all it's saying though is Floppy disc(s) fail (40) but not all the other stuff. When I press the button to skip it though it just says Load Error! & won't let me go any further until I power off & back on.

I guess I'll try the jumper thing for a bit longer this time...

When I go into "Standard CMOS Features" it shows my 2 optical drives first as IDE Channel 0 Master & IDE Channel 0 Slave. Is that right? It just seems like those should be actual hard discs.

change the boot up device priority to
1. cdrom
2. Hard disk
3.Floppy
and u shouldn't get the floppy error

it looks like u have two drives in one ide channel and the hard disk/s in another so it's ok

That's how it is.
1 - CDROM
2 - Hard Disc
3 - Network
Boot other device - disabled (it was enabled but i just tried disabled & i didn't work either)

Can I set "Quick Post" to disabled? Because I think thats where it's failing?

Hey thank you so much for helping me out man, seriously that's really cool but you don't have to waste your time doing this. I'm gonna try to call Alienware again & see what they can tell me & if that doesn't work I might fiddle around with my BIOS a bit more & then call someone to come check it out tomorrow morning (it's 6:00pm here so I doubt I'll get anyone tonight)
Thank you very, very much. I really appericate all your help.

Go into BIOS and chose load optimal settings, it should be there on the main menu.

I get it all the time for some reason if i switch off the psu, when i poke around the innards of my pc for cleaning etc.

if you have multiple hard disks make sure that you select the correct one to boot from.

If you don't have a Floppy you have to disable it on your bios. If you don't you will alway get that error for the floopy. In your situation all you had to do is clear the cmos since you just got a new processor and that would of take care of you problem. Good luck.

Somehow my BIOS got reset, I guess I somehow zapped it a little bit even though I was grounded when I installed my RAM & CPU. I have a RAID 0 setup though & when it got reset it was trying to load from a normal disc. I had to go into the RAID controller under Perhipials (i know i spelled that wrong ) & enable my RAID controller.

Thank you very, very, very much to everyone that helped, I really appreciate it, thank you.

*Edit:* Alienware tech support kindly informed me that I voided my warranty because I installed more RAM, even though they advertise "expandibility" & it was the exact same kind they sold me with the machine. I didn't even mean to tell them, it just kinda slipped out. Imagine what they would have said if I told them I cut a hole in the side of the case the first night, replaced all their shitty fans with pretty LED ones, added water cooling & replaced the processor

glad it works for you again. nothing worse than your pc not getting past bios. hate that so much.

lol. I think they might have noticed that if you sent it back to them for repairs anyway.

ha. Make sure you post that everytime someone mentions buying an alienware. People are always posting how they're gonna get one and then everyone says not to. What happened to that guy that got like four and they didn't work and he couldn't get new ones or something? Also, is it possible you got a retard tech on the phone? Well, I mean, it's very possible, but is it possible they were mistaken about adding ram violates the warranty? I've seen a lot of brand name computers that will have stickers inside them saying "If you remove this sticker, your warranty is void." Did you have any of those? I've also seen a sticker on an old computer of mine that said "breaking this seal does not violate your warranty." That's pretty fucking retarded adding RAM to a high performance machine violates the warranty. Either way, if you have an issue, there's no way they can prove you've got extra ram. If you need to send it in, or they try to remotely assist you, just take it out.

Re: the floppy thing. That happened to a friend. I just disabled the floppy in the bios and it fixed the problem. I think someone else mentioned it, so I'm just confirming it does work.

3 days now & I'm still getting this problem. Does anyone know if it could be that my BIOS aren't compatible with my new processor? I've replaced the original one & I still get the same error though.
I got the floppy disc thing fixed, all I had to do is set it to "none" like people said (thank you for that) but everytime I restart I get that "Failed to POST" error. I've spent a total of 3 1/2 hours talking to tech support, about 90% of which was me sitting on hold. I did the jumper thing last night & it worked for awhile but my tempatures started showing like 300C via Invidia Monitor (obviously that's not accurate but something is definitely wrong) so I rebooted & I got it again.
I think it has something to do with the power, maybe my UPS is putting out too much or the processor keeps zapping everything? I don't know shit though so it's probably wrong.
The computer starts if I press "F1 to skip" & runs fine.

You guys have helped alot so I'm not askin you to put any effort into anything now, just if you think of something at some point please let me know, I can't send my computer back even if I have to because I modified my case like the first night I got it because my case temp were insanely hot (they're still not much better, even on water) & I'm sure they'd notice that

*Edit:* Fixed again, they told me to buy a new CMOS battery because it looks like it's not saving something.
First he said they'd send me one & when I said "ok" he changed it to "well it would actually be better if you would just buy one locally", lmao. Cheap pricks, they charge $3,000 for a $1,200 system (of course I just made those nu,bers up but you know what I mean) but can't spare the $2.00 for a spare watch battery

*Edit # 1,768,968,466:* Still failure
Supposedly my new processor isn't compatible with my mobo so I gotta get a new one.
