I did search, so I found about ImageCFG and RunFirst. Well I downloaded RunFirst, but when I tried to open the RunFirst.exe the window just flashes, opening and closing very quickly. Well that didn't work. So I tried imagecfg, but it said I will need to put it in system32 and system32/dllcache, but I don't have dllcache! What to do? Is there some other program I could use to make the core 1 to play BF2 and the core 2 to run all other background programs when I play BF2?
don't bother.. if you have a E6300 or above you don't need to worry... i haven't done any affinity setting since i got mine and it runs fine.
thread handling is a complex task and there are no tools to do what you want, it should do it automatically.
But now when I got this dual core processor BF2 is laggy and choppy and stuttering...
And my processor is A64 X2 4200+

X2 4200+
2 Gb RAM
Radeon X1800XT 512 Mb
And some people say that I should set the affinity of the process, but I don't have that option when I right click process.

Do you have the AMD Dual Core Drivers/Fix/Patch?
Google be your all seeing all knowing friend:
Question answered? If that doesn't fix your problem I shall stand corrected but I'd have thought that would be what's causing it.
The HardForum guide is about as comprehensive as your going to get, so have at it Hacial.

Using the following search keywords:
"amd dual core stutter" you get a pretty good guide on the issue: AMD Dual Core Gaming Fix Guide @ HardForum
trying "amd dual core driver" gives you AMD Dual-Core Optimizer or even the 2nd result on that page How to install the AMD X2 drivers, hotfix, the correct way.

AMD Dual Core Gaming Fix Guide @ HardForum wrote:
Fix #1 - The AMD Dual Core Optimizer
AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple processor systems.

I was unable to install the hotfix, it said I can't install it because the hotfix is in different language than what I speak. But installing drivers and dual core optimizer solved the problem. Thanks, have 1+.aujt74 wrote:

Good to hear. Thought that would be it, not owned a AMD since before they started doing dual core but I'd heard about the problem before.Hacial wrote:

Glad you got that sorted then!

I had the same problem and unknowingly I decided to download the dual core optimizer and boom it was fixed. I guessed it was the patch but i didn't know, now I do! lol
OK, i Win XP SP2, you can hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager. Here, click the tab that says "Processes." Ok, in this menu, set BF2.exe to the affinity of CPU 0. Set everything else to CPU 1. THis is alot of things, so just set wht is actually using CPU
With all due respect, that wouldn't help in Hacial's case... And it's usefulness is dubious, Windows process scheduling is shaky enough without you interfering in it... That said some people seem to swear by it, but frankly if you are needing to do that to get decent performance out of a game you need to lower your settings, overclock or get a new processor...AWSMsniper wrote:

And also, the OP already mentioned setting affinity in his first post....
