As the title says, i'll start off:

There's no such thing as an unselfish deed.

i don't want to start an argument but here's my idea (100% mine)
when adam and eve had babies. then those babies (once they grow up) had to reproduce
therefore
if a bother and sister make more babies
then the out come = inbred babies
were all inbred?
(this one cancels out the adam and eve story)

The world is not round. It is flat. now matter how far i walk, I never get to the other side and eventually I'm sure I'll reach the edge.

Your theory is IMO valid; I've actually discussed the same thing with my good friend (a philosophy-student). There actually is no such thing as an unselfish deed.

E.g. help an old lady across the street is generally considered as unselfish, but what are the motives to help? The answer is: To feel good about oneself. The "unselfish" deed is actually selfish, as the primary motive is to release endorphins in the brain.

This should be moved to D&ST.

Holy shit, MIKE!!!
What the hell are the chances I'd see you here?
To answer your question, in the beginning, both Adam and Eve were meant to be 'perfect', and therefore they were void of any complications from incest. This continued down the line of children untill the point that people were so imperfect that they became the intellectually challenged spawn of incest that they are today.

Not that I believe in that...

So to say the only fact that we help old woman across the street is to get a good feeling dismissing the fact that she needed help was the main objective.

To take a similar issue, when you rise from your seat on the bus to yield a senior citizen a needed space to sit i dont get a good feeling but the next 30 minutes on the bus home gives me sore legs.

I get your point of getting recognition for good deeds, but saying there is no such thing as an unselfish deed is being to academic !

Case nr 2: An undercover agent during WW2 is captured and would rather be tortured to death than to give up information about his comrades. Selfish or unselfish ?

Guess that`s an encouraging thought with all your nails pulled and your ass filled with liquid steel, yay i`m a hero ! Very selfish indeed !

Think misconception of the word selfish applies in this case !

Probably no would would ever know what he did.

Anyway being selfish is not to do things that have absolute zero personal benefit (i.e. feeling good about doing them afterwards), as long as that was not the reason you did them.

Well how about not being called a squealer even if his side wins the war, or support of the cause => Beliving in what he is being tortured for.

Det er jo akkurat de samme grunnene til at de fleste som ble tatt av gestapo ikke snakket.

Dont think the fact that he may be called names after the war is motivation enough, gotta come up with something better !

Norske Vikinger snakker ikke pga litt tortur, de liker det faktisk

Wow, I have always thought of that, but in a less... sick way.

I said we would all be related if that was true.

Clearly you are not a parent...otherwise you wouldn't waste time on silly postulates...

Oh, and to prove my point succinctly, it wouldn't matter if the child was my flesh and bones or adopted OR ANY child...once you are a parent, you get selfless acts...

Adam and Eve had two children that we know of. Cain and Abel. When they grew up, Cain went off and found a wife. Just where exactly did this woman come from?

well he left them when he was a child. i'm not sure if he still knew them. but if they were Buddhists then he was attempting to help them to. and it would only be their selfishness wanting him to live not the other way around.

umm, ok so a baby in a pram is sitting in the middle of the road. a bus is coming. do you push the pram out of the way (with or without risk of life or limb) because:

a. the baby is in trouble
b. because you desire endorphins

i thought so...
