The footage itself isn't in the video, it contains stills (at the end) and footage of a laptop/projector.

They're whaling for "research" in what is supposed to be a whale sanctuary...what exactly are they researching?  Whale cooking techniques?  A new type of harpoon?

Japan, GTFO

I think they're trying to find out when their whale cousins are going to show up in a giant spaceship that disrupts all of our communications and vaporizes all of our water.

Most of you know my views on Marine Mammal hunting - see the Dolphin Hunt thread.
I don't want to write too much so I'll just say this: after World War 2 when Japan was facing economic crisis and couldn't feed it's people, the Whales saved them. It's about fucking time the Japanese returned the favour and started saving the Whales.

What the fuck is wrong with Whale hunting? Of the species the Japanese hunt, for whatever reason, there are plenty of stocks and it's sustainable. If you have issue with the methods they employ to hunt and capture Whales then some of you should go visit your local abattoir and then tell me the Japs are sick.

The only reason they call it research is because they're not allowed to hunt them for their meat, something instigated by evangelical eco-fascists on the other side of the world who know nothing about fish stocks and their sustainability.

It is seriously yummy meat.

Apparantly.

To RicardoBlanco and Ratzinger, you are correct in what you say, there are quite a few whales out there now. The problem most people have is that whales were almost hunted to extinction, and without the ban, they may well have gone that way. As for killing techniques, the slaughter of animals is likely to be gruesome and turn people to vegetarianism (is that a word?). but people are always squeemish when it comes to the big "magnificent" animals. There is also the argument about just how intelligent they are, but without scientific evidence, that discussion tends to be based on subjective points rather than concise objective facts.
