Hey guys I upgraded my oldschool Radeon 9600 to a x1600Pro over christmas, and I think I'm getting worse preformance! I used to run BF2 on the 9600 on low settings w/ 1024x768 resoultion, and it ran okay in almost all situations. Now with the x1600Pro anything over 32 players, and I drop to <20 FPS. I'm not expecting the x1600 to pull off any miracles, but WTF. I ran 3dMark05 before I upgraded, and it looks like I did gain about 1000 marks on the GPU side, but for some reason my CPU lost about 500 marks?! Could this be the problem? The 3dmark does render at a visibly higher framerate (~5fps with 9600, ~15 with the x1600 ), but in BF2 it's another story.  I tried installing updated drivers for the x1600, but didn't notice a change. Anyone else having simmilar issues?

P4 2.4 Ghz
1g +256m of ram
Windows XP
Creative Xtreme Gamer Sound Card

Any help you guys could give is greatly appricated. Thanks in advance!

What settings are you working that X1600 up to?

EDIT: Oh and btw, your CPU is bottlenecking your card. Big time.

In BF2? The same as it was on the 9600 1024x768 with everything low (except geo>medium).

In Catalyst I have everything set to high preformance.

Yep.. pretty sure it's your CPU. Is it 64 bit or 32 bit?

32 it's a pretty old machine. But still, if it ran okay with the 9600 shouldn't it run AT LEAST as well with the x1600? I don't see how getting a better card can result in worse performace.

Try taking out that 256mb stick of ram and see how she goes. I had a similar problem with a 9600 getting 20fps all of a sudden, when the last round i'de have 45+. Took out my 256mb stick (which made it 1gig) and it was fine.

Are you sure you didn't trip over a X1600Pro with either shared memory or a 64-bit memory interface?

I noticed the other day whilst rebuilding a system that the current ATI drivers are shit...... I installed ATI drivers from here  --   http://www.omegadrivers.net/  --
and everything was fine....

I took out the 256, no difference. Just as bad, I'll try the omega drivers now.

Well, a friend of mine could play the game on all low and some medium with his 9600Pro with 128mb at 1024x768.
Well, I'm playing BF2 at all medium (dynamic thingies low) at 1280*1024 with a 6600GT, which isn't that much of a difference. I see, however, that the X1600Pro (at stock speeds) is about the same as my 6600GT, I've also only got 1gig of Ram and a 3,0GHz P4.
You might really suffer from bad drivers, yeah.

I'm tired, so I'll just take a shot in the dark. If your BIOS settings has something called "AGP Arpeture" in it, change the numerical M (MB) to a value equal to that of your new video card's memory.
