I know most of you players will hate this idea, but I seriously think that EA screwed up lowering all the requirements for ranks and awards to what they are now.

Originally, to get veteran combat awards, you would need 150 hours in that kit.  Even now, there are only a few players that have this in more than one kit.  Expert was 300 hours (if I'm not mistaking).  Now I feel that these awards were great, because if you found someone who actually had a veteran/expert award, they obviously are a veteran/expert at that kit, or at least played long enough to be considered that.  Now, if you search just about any player that has over 100 hours playing time, they probably have a few veteran badges.

Vehicle awards are the same way.  Imagine all vehicles; Transport, chopper and aircraft have the same time/kill requirements as the armor does now.  That's the way it used to be and in my opinion should have stayed.

Here's an example:  http://bf2s.com/player/75119759/  Currently has about 100 TOTAL hours played, and already has 3 veteran awards.  Now with the old requirements, he'd be 50 hours short of 1 veteran award if the entire time he played was in one kit.  (Random player that proved my point, sorry)

Now the ranking system I feel is the most screwed up.  To be the rank that I currently am, Sergeant Major, you would originally needed the same requirements as the current 4 star general.  There are too many players today in servers that are officers.  In real life, there'd be 1 maybe 2 lieutenants on the battlefield at once.  Every other officer is normally a non-com.  So why change the game so that most players hold these ranks?  If the game was still the way it was originally set up,  most people now would be the rank of corporal-master sergeant.  Now, these are more along the lines of soldiers that would normally see the battlefield.

So to sum up all I said:

I feel that the original ranking system and award requirements were far superior to what they currently are. It actually took a conscious effort to get those awards, and a long time to get to know each kit.  Achieving a rank or award actually meant something back then; I was always thrilled every time I got just a stripe.  Now people are like, "hey I just got Lieutenant, cool.  Only 15,000 points to Captain."

**Edit:  found a guy that proved my point**

In my opinion, They should keep it the way they have it now, BUT, make it so you can only get General by having Everything gold, this way, people like LordOfWeed for example can't just grenade whore their way to the top, or whatever other ways there may be...

It's dumb that there's LT Generals out there with ALL the awards, yet they're still LT Generals and not an all-out 4 Star General, which they Should be for dedicating the time to all these different classes for the awards they have. I HATE it that you've got to be in like the top 50 (or whatever it is) LT Generals to become a 4 star, that will take Years for some people, because you have to be around in the 300,000 - 400,000 point range to even get Close to getting it!!! - I'm giving up at LT General, Pointless to even try getting General. Most LT Generals are out there glitching into walls and stats padding just to get General. Not all, but I do see alot of stats padders/glitchers that are LT Generals.

I hope some of you see my point... I just find it extremly Stupid that we have people out there with all the awards yet they can't rank up to the top rank untill they spend forever point whoring to the top! it's DUMB!!!

-my two cents, take no offense by it.

I'm memorized that mezmerizing motion.

To the OP, since many people got expert kit combats as commander or flying the hours are irrelevant.  Ranks might be okay the way they were, but awards, ribbons and/or badges need to be achievable by people who don't want to play for 1500 hours.

QFE, that makes perfect sense.

You'd have to reset the stats, or else it wouldn't mean anything and would just screw over the few new people who come to this game. And I think reseting stats is a whole nother can of worms

I think it's mostly fine, just because it would take a lot of damn time to get some of those things. I see your point though, but I think it's nearly impossible to achieve anything while still maintaining some kind of life. I don't think the requirements should be lowered, however.

There is one thing though -- there should be more badge requirements for certain ranks. I agree with Vinion, that to get stars, you should have all the expert badges. Although, that would go for making brigadier general, not just 4-star.

I see it from different angles:

1.  who cares about rank or awards?  If you don't play a game for fun, then why play it?  If EA took away all stats tomorrow, would you still play BF2?

or

2.  Lowering the requirements for everything probably saved the game from people giving up after their 3rd month as a SGT.  or 5th month as an assault (or whatever kit they wanted "expert" status in)

or

3. Lowering requirements fucked those of us that worked like a sonovabitch to get anything, while we watch those around us get handed everything.

Sure, I was pissed that I played for three months to get to Gunnery, just to see the point requirement drop by several thousand.. Meanwhile all the first Sgt.s got handed Sgt Major status and more or less a hop skip and jump to O-1...  Then again, the only stat I am thinking of ingame, is my k:d, and only because killing more than dying is more fun.. My ranks and awards, no matter when, how, or the requirements therof- they're pretty, and some of them do say a little about me as a player, but by and large/at the end of the day,  I don't keep BF2s open while I play- I play to have fun wwith my friends and LoL in the RL, not for stats.

Now if players got stronger, faster, more accurate with rank and etc, like EA had initially intended- then rank would be everything!

actually the way the scoring system was originally, you would have had to have 500,000+ to even get close to an officer rank

This was all i could find of the original ranking system but it is accurate.

Hell no. The original reqs were ludicrously steep; some awards are a little too easy now but the current scoring system is a lot closer to ideal than it was straight out of the gate.

True, some awards don't reward skill, they reward attrition.

Origanally there was no "officer ranking", when they "opened" the officer ranking they also lowered the requirements for the lower ranks. To make Lt. General, You DO have to have ALL veteran in BOTH kits AND vehicles.

Yes please go sit another 60 houres in ground defense and 4000 houres in armor!
I voted NO , I like it the way it is now. It takes a lot of houres to get all awards now too. A few are easy, but after a while you have to do some effort to get them.

It's a bit of a yes+no answer for me.
I liked the original ranking system, where it did take time+score to advance.  You didn't get 3 unlocks in your first week of play.

But for the awards, they absolutely had to change them, make them more achieveable.  It very obvious that EA+Dice put ZERO thought into the requirements before they released the game, they just threw some numbers down and fixed it six months later with a patch when they realized how much they had f*cked up.

Originally, the Veteran Combat badges required 250h played in a kit, and the Expert Combat required 1000h.  They lowered them to 15h and 100h.  Too easy?  Well, something had to change.  Think about it...1000h in a kit?  Oh yeah, you'd be a freaking EXPERT in that kit by 1000h alright!

And their vehicle awards were even more unbelievable...Expert Aviator required 1500h, Expert Ground/Air Defensers needed 750h, Expert Transport required 1000h in jeeps, plus 50,000 driver points.

All of the people you voted "yes" are wastoids with no life who just play BF2 all the time. They want it that way because they would be the only ones with unlocks that way.
