dont missiles jink up after they are fired at a non target? Unless a friendly plane was being shot at and he turned towards you to confuse the missile... otherwise thats pretty sketchy.

It's possible, I've done it before, though usually I end up hitting a friendly aircraft. Sometimes when you point and randomly shoot AA missiles inland it picks up a "heat source" and will lock on it. Not a hack.

Was it actually arty that killed you?

He may have been commander, jumped in essex gun, artied your area, and resigned, to try and get more points for kills when the arty hit, then reapplies for commander. So it shows as essex gun because that is what weapon he is in.

Its a stray missile(most likely fired at one of your jets) from the Essex that caught your choppers heat signature and decided to go after you instead. It also "ghosts" when it travels too far away, so thats why you probably didnt see it coming. Did you hear a warning tone by any chance?
